Upon his arriving in Albany he did not arrive here as God fearing, follower of Jesus Christ. He had to be humbled into submission. When he arrived he came to change his life but had no idea what it meant. He found himself in an unfamiliar place the shelter. To give you a better insight we must take you back further than his arrival to Albany, you see he came from The Bronx; he also was a single father. While in the Bronx he knew he had to make a change for the betterment of his daughter. He decided to move to Albany. He had other problems; like substances abuse, lack of motivation and most of all a lack of direction. These problems cause me to send my child ahead of him to Albany to stay with her aunt. The day he was suppose to leave to move Albany seem like everything fell apart on him, whiling waiting on the person who never showed up to move him and his child’s things never showed,
he fell asleep. While sleeping he had dream and in this dream he was told if you don’t leave this place tonight this is where you will die. He awoke in a cold sweat, ran to the bathroom washed his face brushed his teeth and walked out the door with what he could put in a suitcase and left. Now he found himself in Albany without any direction, he went to the unemployment office where he was directed to the Veteran’s Center. The Veteran Center assigned him an advocate whom in-turned placed him into a three phase program called HUD/VASH. The first objective of the program is treatment which he very much needed. The second part was getting a directional plan which was a twofold, step, part A being obtaining employment and the second was to be sustainable in the workforce. The finial part was to obtain affordable housing for his child and himself. He was told he would be put into a shelter for about 90 days. This was a totally new experience, for he had never been in a shelter before, but he had no other choices available to him. Transformation
Well remember I told you that he was not a total Christ follower at this time. Well guess what? That’s right he was place in a Christian Shelter which he had no problem with he said to himself it is only for 90 days and you were in the army for three years how bad could it be? Well they first place him was on the floor because you had earn your bed by longevity. After about a week he made he was in a bed. He found a job things were looking up so he thought. Then it starting happening he remember seeing a sign saying if you would like to have dinner with us join us in the Chapel for Service. He said I got a job I don’t need neither their food nor their Chapel. That’s the night he lost my bed, you see he didn't read that sign correctly, what the sign actually said was that they served dinner after service in the Chapel. It also said it was mandatory for all residents to be present so attendance could be taken; this is how I lost his bed because he was not in the Chapel to be accounted for. Now weather he wanted to be or not he had to be in the Chapel well one day while in service the guest Pastor began to speak and when he did the words that came out of his mouths was not his but the words of our Father. These words were piercing and seem like they were directed right at Minister Young, he could no longer hide or run, and time was here for him to make a choice and stick by it. On that day tears rolled down his checks uncontrollably and he excepted CHRIST as his Lord and Savior that very day. Lifestyle of Service
He has chosen to follow Christ in his Ministry of Service to our Father’s people, this is not by far an easy choice but it is the only one. In order for him to live a lifestyle of service he first had to change his mindset, because you see he was misdirected in his former self. He had always been taught me first everything else whenever. He changed the way he talked to people and how he was going to live the rest of my life. The best part is that he has gotten from this is the relationship he have established with our Father through constant prayer and reading of his word. We are called to go out to the people and preach the complete word of our Father in every part of our life. I am commanded to live a lifestyle of service to carry the word of God everywhere I go weather it is in school, work or in the streets. Church History
He was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, NY in December of 2009, since that time our Father has refined him, chastised him but most of all He has given him a wonderful God fearing wife to be his support system.
