May 2 would have marked my mom’s 94th birthday. Her birthday always closely coincided with Mother’s Day and my sister, Pennie, has a birthday on May the 4th… a decade change this year.
Mom was the consistent spiritual presence in our home and her skills at the keyboard (organ, piano, etc) served her church and filled our home with continual music. She expressed her love primarily through service and she was always keeping her hands busy… household chores, sewing, knitting, praise team administration, school secretary and joining service and support organizations.
She was a good cook, paid the bills and did most of the shopping. She doted on me until Pennie was born and neither one of us could doubt her love for us. She continually reached out to help her parents and anyone else in need who crossed her pathway. She was great example of treating others like one would like to be treated. I was extremely blessed to have Betty Jean Skouby Ballard as my mother. I’m remembering you on your birthday… 🎂🎉🎊🎈❤️☦️
