Sent Together, Not Alone
Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Mark 6:7
Devotional: Jesus sent His disciples in pairs, not because they were weak, but because there is divine strength in partnership. When one grows weary, the other provides encouragement. When one faces attack, the other stands in defense. The enemy seeks to isolate believers, knowing that a lone sheep is vulnerable prey. God never designed the Christian life to be walked alone. In community, we find accountability that keeps us humble, companionship that strengthens our resolve, and witnesses that confirm God's truth. Today, consider: Are you trying to live your faith in isolation? Who has God placed alongside you for mutual encouragement? Don't forsake the assembling of believers—there is power when we walk together in Christ.

Don’t Miss the Moment
Scripture:
Luke 19:42 – “If you had known… the things that make for peace.”
Thought:
The most haunting part of the story… Jesus left.
Not because He lacked love, but because they lacked response.
Opportunities with God are real… and they’re not guaranteed forever.
Some didn’t reject Him loudly.
They just… didn’t respond at all.
And indifference quietly closed the door.

Application:
Respond when God speaks. Don’t delay.
Take spiritual moments seriously.
Don’t let Jesus become background noise.

Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want to miss what You’re doing in my life. Give me urgency, awareness, and a heart that responds when You call. Amen.

The Quiet Power of Faith
Scripture:
Hebrews 11:6 – “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.”
Thought:
Jesus didn’t lose power in Nazareth… they just lost access to it.
Unbelief doesn’t shrink God… it shrinks our experience of Him.
It’s like standing in a downpour with an umbrella open and wondering why you’re dry. Faith closes the umbrella.

Application:
Where have you stopped expecting God to work?
Pray boldly again.
Trust Him in areas you’ve quietly written off.

Prayer:
Lord, forgive my unbelief. Help me trust You more. Open my life to Your power and work in ways I haven’t expected. Amen.

When Truth Offends
Scripture:
Galatians 4:16 – “Have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?”
Thought:
When Jesus spoke truth, people didn’t just resist the message… they rejected Him.
Truth has a way of poking pride right in the ribs.
Instead of adjusting their hearts, they questioned His authority.
“Who does He think He is?” often really means, “I don’t want to hear that.”

Application:
When convicted, pause before pushing back.
Don’t critique tone to avoid truth.
Let the Word correct you before you defend yourself.

Prayer:
God, give me a soft heart toward truth. When You speak, help me receive it instead of resisting it. Shape me, even when it’s uncomfortable. Amen.

Around Jesus but Not Changed
Scripture:
Hebrews 2:1 – “Pay much closer attention… lest we drift away.”
Thought:
Being around Jesus doesn’t automatically mean being transformed by Jesus.
You can float in the current of church life and still drift spiritually.
Like knowing every line of a movie but never understanding the story… some knew facts about Jesus but missed the fullness of who He is.

Application:
Don’t settle for a nostalgic faith.
Move from memory to relationship.
Dig deeper: study, serve, expect Him to work in your daily life.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t want a surface-level faith. Draw me deeper. Help me know You, not just know about You. Amen.

Familiar but Missing Him
Scripture:
Mark 6:3 – “Is not this the carpenter…?”
Thought:
Nazareth didn’t deny Jesus… they downsized Him. Took the Son of God and folded Him into a label: carpenter, hometown boy, Mary’s son. Like stuffing l
Familiarity didn’t bring them closer… it dulled their vision.
You can sit near a fire long enough that you forget it burns.

Application:
Ask yourself: When was the last time you were truly in awe of Jesus?
Don’t just “do” devotion… look for His character in it.
Come to church, pray, and walk daily, expecting God to move.

Prayer:
Lord, keep my heart from growing casual with You. Let me never reduce You to something small or predictable. Open my eyes to see You fresh again. Amen.

Until 2022, Waldo Charles and his wife, Meyjenne Nicolas, served the Haitian community on Virginia’s Eastern Shore with little outside support. That changed when Waldo completed a church planter assessment and was endorsed by Send Network Virginia.
Through this partnership, nearby Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia churches came alongside them, helping with a back-to-school outreach and renovating their church building. In 2024, Tabernacle Saved by Grace in Parksley, Virginia, celebrated 14 baptisms and grew to a weekly worship attendance of 75.
Growth came with challenges. Waldo continued working full-time while pastoring and planting, and Meyjenne faced health issues that limited her ability to serve.
Waldo’s ministry extends far beyond the pulpit. He serves as a taxi driver, translator, and informal legal advocate, meeting practical needs in a community deeply affected by the cancellation of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) immigration program. Local chicken factories, which employed 85 percent of the Haitian community, laid off all TPS workers.
Pray they will not grow weary. Ask God to give them wisdom and provision as they guide their community through difficult transitions. Pray that their church members will live as missionaries wherever God sends them.
