Please check out the Emanuel 9 Memorial. This is a faith-based memorial honoring a mass murder inside a church 11 years ago today. And yes, the murderer belonged (or belongs?) to an ELCA congregation. I was staying in North Carolina at the time and attended a poignant healing service.

The inspiration for the memorial is drawn from reflecting upon the lives and sacrifices of the Emanuel Nine. Designed by Michael Arad of Handel Architects.

As a pastor I am often blessed with first experiences. Last night a group of us welcomed a parishioner home from his honor flight. He had a wonderful day. It was also exciting to applaud a 93-year-old female veteran from the Korean War. We thank them all for their service.
