From Sunday's sermon.

“There are so many relatively tiny instances like this where we feel uncomfortable or inconveniently by those who are different from us. This is the ‘suffering’ of outreach, which is actually a time to grow. It allows us to grow in our empathy, in our strength, in our being like Jesus. It allows us to deny ourselves. Talking to those of us in similar situations helps immensely—and not just a simple complaint time, but rather a time to help each other figure out where we are being blind. Where we might be “setting our mind not on divine things but on human things.””

"As people of faith, we have a particular and essential role to do our best to articulate the moral answers to the most complicated questions of humanity -- to stand on the rock and offer clear visions for the flourishing of humanity. We may not be able to get people to listen, but if we are silent, we are abdicating our humanness and are complicit in the inhumanity of whatever happens around us."
