The Collect for Holy Saturday:
O God, Creator of heaven and earth: Grant that, as the crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

On Holy Saturday, while the body of Jesus rested in the tomb, where was Jesus? This is answered in the Apostles' Creed (BCP, p. 120): "He descended to the dead." In what is known as the Harrowing of Hell, traditional Anglican/Episcopal belief maintains that Jesus, between the time of his Crucifixion and his Resurrection, brought salvation to all the righteous persons who had died since the beginning of the world.

This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and our journey to Easter.

Earlier this week, our sister in faith and Associate Rector, The Reverend Dr. Katherine Mitchell, passed away. While our parish mourns her loss, we also celebrate her life, honor her family, and cherish our memories of her time with us over the past 12 years.

Katherine loved and adored her husband of more than 50 years, their three adult children, and their “precious, perfect grandchildren” in her words. She enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening, and hanging out with her family and friends.

Katherine was a tremendous blessing to our St. Peter’s family and the community at large. One of her most significant contributions was playing a key role in getting our Financial Assistance Program started in 2017; a vital initiative that helps fund the basic needs of our neighbors in Beaufort County who are down on their luck and need a little help through tough times.

“For all that Katherine did, we give thanks. More profoundly, we give thanks for who she was and who she remains now in Christ: a beloved child of God, beautiful to behold!” – Father Chris Adams
