The Eucharist is the high point of Christian life because in it we remember and celebrate the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and by receiving Him, Jesus unites us with Himself. Christ invites us to consume Him in Word and Sacrament. He entreats us to constantly renew our commitment to His Lordship. The question that lies before us is simple. Do we take His invitation at its full value?

How can you come more alive in receiving Jesus in Holy Communion this week?

Saturday Silly

The Sunday School teacher asked, “now, Johnny, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?”
“No sir,” little Johnny replies, “I don’t have to. My mom is a good cook.”

Let us join Archbishop Michael G. McGovern and the Archdiocese of Omaha in praying for Rev. Michael Figura as he prepares for ordination to the priesthood this Saturday, June 6.

Please join me in praying for Deacon Michael Figura whom I will happily ordain to the Sacred Priesthood on Saturday, June 6 at the Cathedral of St. Cecilia. May the Lord grant Deacon Michael strength and peace, and may he always know the friendship of Jesus as he lays down his life in priestly ministry.

As John's Gospel states, the Father sent His Son into the world. That is, God commissioned Jesus to reveal the true nature of the Father. In doing so, Jesus revealed Himself as the Father's only true Son, or as John's Gospel states, “God's only begotten Son.” This relationship transcends time into the eternal. At the Council of Nicaea (325), the Church defined this relationship between the Father and the Son as "consubstantial." That is, the Father and the Son share the same divine nature.

In what ways do you trust God, the Trinity, with your daily life? Make a list of all your projects, hopes, and ambitions. Place that list in God's hands.
