When God calls us to Himself, He calls us to continual conversion. As we forever receive pardon for our shortcomings, we should always forgive others for theirs. The next time someone hurts you and challenges your patience, remember the source of forgiveness, God Himself. Make a short list of the people you find difficult to forgive. Pray for the realization that God has forgiven you. Then (and only then) pray for the power to forgive them.

We live in an instant gratification and throw-away culture. We are surrounded by material objects that we are striving toward or working to maintain ownership of. This kind of living is so contrary to the life of Christ. He lived largely off the generosity of others. We may not all be called to live that radically. But we all have desires and possessions that we could give up for the greater glory of God. How can we live for Christ when we are tempted to live only for today? This is the challenge Jesus gave us in today’s Gospel.

Make a short list of your most prized possessions and relationships. Offer that list to the Lord. Pray for guidance, prudence, and faith for when these things and people are taken away from you.
