Last Sunday, Kirby Gleason served as an acolyte for the first time. During our Community Prayers he gave thanks to Linda Simmons who helped make it possible. What he said:

This week Rev. Sara shared a graphic for Pride Month about how In The Episcopal Church, You Belong! Often, a way I feel I DON'T belong is when I can't find clothes my size, especially when there's a dress code or uniform. So when I felt called to be an acolyte, I was discouraged, because I thought I'd never find an alb that fits. But, we have a Sewing Samurai at St Luke's. Linda is a master, and made me a custom alb that fits perfectly.

I am blessed and grateful for Linda, because she made it so I belong.

Happy Pride, y'all!

Because the Portland metro area is so proudly weird, they celebrate Pride in July, when St. Luke's invites people to attend the parade and celebrations with one another. Then St. Luke's will celebrate its own Pride Sunday the week after. So save these dates:

July 19th: Pride Sunday in Portland, where St. Lukians who want to march can go together.
July 26th: Pride Sunday at St. Luke's where we will celebrate how all our LGBTQIA+ siblings are wonderfully made.

Last Saturday, a small but mighty crew gathered to continue care of our yard and gardens. Roz was especially on the case of cleaning the named bricks in the Memorial Rose Garden! Thanks to all who came out to help!

Through the spoken Word, through the wind that is breath, God calls life into the formless void. Rhythm, the repetition of verses, breath and words. This story of creation is a song, and God—God the Creator, God the Word, God the Breath—is our cosmic crooner.

Faith does not call us to analyze and understand our Trinitarian God intellectually. Faith does not call us to explain which part of the Trinity is greater or how each part works.

Faith calls us to hear the song and to dance, even in the darkness.

A message from Rev. Sara: I invite you to sign your name to support this statement from two of my clergy colleagues calling for a response from The Episcopal Church about systemic sexual violence. You don't have to be in this diocese or even an Episcopalian to support it!

"In the Episcopal Church, the promises we make at our baptism are at the heart of our faith and our life in Christ. In our baptismal covenant we promise to resist all the forces of wickedness that rebel against God. We are called then, by God, to name the systematic sexual abuse of young women and children, most recently laid bare in the revelations around Jeffrey Epstein and his cohort, and to lament the sinful systems of patriarchy and misogynistic sexual violence."

What is it that makes you essential to the whole Body of Christ? What do you offer in order to bridge the divides between your neighbors? How does the Spirit nourish you so that you may go out and be a nourishing presence to others? This is what you are invited to think about and celebrate on this day.
