The LORD answers Job from the whirlwind and questions him about creation, revealing that His sovereign rule is beyond human understanding.

🌀 God does not answer every question Job has asked -- instead, He reveals the greatness of the One who governs all creation. How does seeing Jesus as the Creator and sustainer of all things help us trust Him when we cannot see or understand what He is doing?

Elihu points to the storm as a display of God’s awesome majesty, calling Job to consider His perfect knowledge, power, justice, and care.

🌀 Human beings can search out treasures hidden deep within the earth, but wisdom cannot be discovered by human effort alone. How does Jesus—the One in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge—show us where true wisdom is ultimately found?

Unable to find God or understand His purposes, Job trusts that He knows his way and will bring him through suffering like refined gold.

🌀 Job cannot see what God is doing, but he trusts that God sees him and knows the way he takes. How does Jesus give us even greater reason to trust God when His purposes are hidden, knowing that the cross itself shows He can accomplish His saving purposes through suffering?

Eliphaz falsely accuses Job of wickedness and urges him to repent, unaware that he himself will need Job’s intercession and God’s mercy.

🌀 Eliphaz speaks confidently about sins Job has not committed, yet the end of the book will reveal that Eliphaz himself needs mercy and intercession. How does this remind us of our need for Jesus, the righteous One who intercedes for sinners who cannot stand before God on their own?

Day 162 (September 26) | See Jesus in the Old Testament

I’m sorry I (Keith) have fallen behind on our daily reading posts. This has been a busy season for me, but walking through God’s Word with you is a joy. Let’s catch up on where we’ve been in Job and spend some time with today’s reading.

In Job 4 (September 22), Eliphaz wrongly assumed that Job’s suffering proved he had sinned. In Job 9 (September 23), Job longed for someone who could stand between him and God. In Job 14 (September 24), he wondered whether there could be life beyond death. And in Job 16 (September 25), failed by his friends, he looked to a witness in heaven.

Today’s reading -- Job 19: Rejected even by those closest to him, Job holds fast to this hope: his Redeemer lives, and one day he will see God. We know the living Redeemer Job longed for. Jesus suffered though He had done no wrong, rose from the dead, and will bring all who belong to Him into His presence.

Ask the Spirit to help you see Jesus in all the Scriptures (Luke 24:27).

🌀 When grief or rejection makes hope feel distant, what does it mean to say, with Job, that your Redeemer lives? How does Jesus’s resurrection assure you that death will not have the final word?
