Being in the temple brings me so much joy!

Happy Meet your Leaders Monday! President McMurray serves as a counselor in our stake presidency. We’re grateful for his willingness to serve in Spartanburg! Here is a little bit about President McMurray.

1. Tell us a little about your family.

Emily grew up as the 2nd oldest of 10 in California, and I the youngest of 3 in Maryland. We met while serving as missionaries in Ireland. After our mission service, we both found ourselves living in the mountain west. We married in the Salt Lake City temple and lived in Utah for 14 years. Our three children, Damien (14), Evelyn (11), and Juliette (6) moved to Boiling Springs in August 2024.

2. How long have you lived in Spartanburg County? What’s your favorite part of this community?

We moved to the area in August 2024. Our favorite part of this community is how connected it is - families from all over the world, community events, friendship, service - it’s a wonderful community to be a part of.

3. What’s a small thing that brings you joy?

Trees (and tree tunnels!) - I missed them dearly during our 14 years in Utah.

4. Tell us one fun fact about you.

I am a violinist.

5. How does knowing we’re children of God change how you serve?

Knowing we are children of God helps remind me we are of the same divine heritage, we’re in this together–we’re a family. That helps me to remember to serve with faith, hope, charity, and love.

6. When do you feel closest to Jesus Christ and why?

I feel closest to our Savior when I am serving alongside my family and friends.

Yesterday was South Carolina’s 2nd Annual Religious Liberty Conference. We got to hear from several religious leaders and legislators and discuss religious freedom in our community!

A common message amongst the religious leaders at the conference is to show love and respect towards those with differing faiths and to be a peacemaker.

How do you show love and respect to those of differing faiths?

President Nelson taught, “I believe that if the Lord were speaking to you directly tonight, the first thing He would make sure you understand is your true identity. My dear friends, you are literally spirit children of God.”

What are things that you do to make sure that you know and remember your true identity?

What are some choices you make because you know that you are a child of God?

How can you help others know that they are children of a loving Heavenly Father?

Enlighten someone this week by sharing with (or reminding) them that they are a spirit child of God.

With heavy hearts, we announce that President Jeffrey R. Holland, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died today at approximately 3:15 a.m. MST from complications associated with kidney disease, while surrounded by his family. He was 85.

“My total responsibility
is to bear witness of the Lord Jesus Christ,” President Holland said hours after he was called to be an Apostle in 1994. “As inadequate as I feel, it is the most pleasant and most rewarding and most thrilling assignment a man can have in this world.”

Happy “Temple Thursday!” A day where we testify of the blessings of temple covenants and focus on keeping an eternal perspective!

In October 2022, President Nelson promised “that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can.”
