Notes from this past Sunday’s message.
Seasons of Ex*****on: Praising Through the Process.
Bishop Cheatham continued the Ex*****on” series, explaining that each message sharpens our spiritual sword for every season—warfare, lack, or in times of plenty.
Key Points / Exposition
1. God Orchestrates Every Season•Romans 8:28 ↗ affirms God actively weaves all circumstances—pleasant or painful—into ultimate good for those who love Him.
Even when we step outside His will (Prodigal Son), He has already prepared restoration for His glory.
2. Execute Hope With Great Anticipation-
Hope is a discipline, not an abstract feeling.
We are never to “pause life” while waiting; instead, keep moving, serve, plan, and expect.
Trust this that there is a clear distinction between passive anticipation and “great anticipation”: look for God’s hand around every corner, even under dark clouds.
3. Emotional Honesty & Self-Reflection
Psalm 42:5 models talking to one’s own soul: “Why are you downcast…? Hope in God!”
David wrote this during Saul’s pursuit or Absalom’s rebellion—times of exile from the sanctuary. Healthy spirituality requires acknowledging inner turmoil, confronting hidden fears, and refusing denial. Relationships are built on and strengthened through trust. God can handle your emotions but can you handle the truth that “it will get better”!
4. The Transforming Power of Worship
David thirsted for God “like a deer pants for water” (Ps 42:1). He was hurting but understood that understanding and peace that surpasses all understanding. Could happen if he could execute praise while he waited on the shift.
Future-focused praise—“I shall yet praise Him”—shifts despair to hope. Worship and gratitude are tools for emotional/spiritual renewal. Paul and Silas while locked in prison had no “natural reason to praise. From the natural eyes it would appear hopeless. But a now praise for a future result brought a change that no one saw coming.
5. Confront Hidden Fears—Keep Executing•
Seasons of adversity tempt us to retreat; instead, declare, “This too shall pass.”•Confronting fears prevents stunted growth and positions us for the next season of planting and recovery.•Refuse to let the enemy steal your praise or dictate the length of your hurting season.
6. Wholehearted Service Anchored in God’s Faithfulness•Col 3:23-24: whatever we do, we do it “with the whole heart” unto the Lord, not people.•Anchor hope in God’s unchanging character; He rewards faithful, resilient service.
