This week at SMI: The newest baby in the Prenatal Program was born in Kamitan. The children in Guitton enjoyed a meal prepared with the packaged food provided by Living Water Lutheran Church (Dayton, OH) and several other organizations around Dayton, OH. A lot has been happening in Haiti. Last week was kindergarten graduation in Guitton. We are excited that these children will be advancing to 1st grade in the fall. Students are being enrolled and measured for uniforms this week. Their summer break will be short since school is scheduled to start Sept. 7.

Yesterday was Flag Day in Haiti. It is one of the biggest celebrations of the year. The community began celebrating last Friday. In the midst of all of the turmoil, Haitians are proud of their heritage and of their flag. The first Haitian flag was sewn not too far from the Kamitan mission house, so the people in Arcahaie take special ownership of and pride in their flag.

This is the newest baby in SMI's prenatal program. The picture of her mother was taken just a few days before giving birth. She is 21 years old and her husband passed away during her pregnancy.
