St. Francis of Assisi Church Greenwood, MS

St. Francis of Assisi Church Greenwood, MS Staffed by the Franciscan Friars of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province St. As Franciscans, we have a special love for those who are economically disadvantaged.

Francis of Assisi Church is staffed by the Franciscan Friars of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province. In Mississippi, we minister in the Delta, one of the poorest areas in the United States. It is an area rich in history and good, hard working people, but because of events of its past, it struggles in the areas of health, education and employment. Francis of Assisi Church is home t

o a very diverse group of parishioners. Our Church family includes Hispanic, African American, Asian, and Caucasian parishioners. It is amazing that even though our Church is so diverse our parishioners love everyone equally. No matter which race, color, or creed you are you will be welcomed with open arms.

Forty years ago today, on the Feast of the Assumption, I professed my solemn vows to the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) and the Church. It has been an incredible journey so far, with so many blessings. I thank God for my vocation as a friar, and for all of you who have been a part of that journey. (And yes, that is a real squirrel, Chester, who I befriended on my solemn vow retreat in Cedar Lake, Indiana).

All Christians, no matter what the denomination, should be outraged at France's display shown here in the accompanying video. First of all, what does this have to do with the Olympics? Nothing at all. I believe it actually hurts the cause it says it is representing by such an offensive display. If each Christian in the US would boycott ANYTHING made in France, it would show our outrage. We as Christians need to unite. Check out the video:

It's been a little over four weeks since I left my former community in Gary, IN to hit the vocation trail in my small RV (vocation mobile). Pictured around the altar are my brothers in Gary: Fr. Abraham, Fr. Ed, Me, Fr. Art and Fr. Mike. Thanks brothers for the great ministry you do in Gary. First stop was at our provincial headquarters in Atlanta, GA for our department heads meeting. Notice the nondescript building that looks like a store front. Then on to Mississippi, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, southern Illinois and Indiana. Experienced my first dust storm in Kansas! Thank goodness the rv has a diesel engine to handle some of those hills in Arkansas and Tennessee! Flew from Memphis to Santa Barbara, CA where our novices Br. Richard and Br. Dan made their first profession. I'm now in Louisiana to meet someone while visiting the Marianites of Holy Cross Sisters. On to Texas tomorrow after mass to give a presentation in Austin. Final destination: the Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, where the Franciscans will have a booth. Drop by if you are in the area!

A great weekend in Greenwood, MS as I visited the former parishes I served and connected with so many wonderful people. I was blessed to celebrate the funeral Mass for Barry Barth, a wonderful wisdom figure; the baptism of Beau Joseph Nathaniel Fauchuex, a quinceañera for Jimena Villasana, and two weekend Masses at Immaculate Heart and St. Thomas. Being at St .Francis brought back wonderful memories of my 16 years serving there. Now sitting at the RV park in downtown Little Rock, AZ as I met one of our discerners to the Franciscans. Now on to Hays, Kansas.

Saw the movie "Cabrini" the other day. Truly inspiring, showing the strength and determination of women in the Church. Even if you're not Catholic, this woman's story shows what hope and compassion can attain. I urge you to see it and be inspired, that with God, "all things are possible."

Check out the new trailer for Cabrini starring Cristiana Dell'Anna! ► Buy Tickets on Fandango: https://www.fandango.com/cabrini-2024-234589/movie-overview?cm...
