LIFE GROUP READING DAY 5: JOHN 4:39-42

In our reading today shows the beautiful ripple effect of one person’s simple encounter with Jesus. It started with a woman’s story, but it ended with an entire town discovering the truth for themselves. The woman didn't need to be a theologian or have all the answers. She simply said, "Come and see." She shared her raw, honest experience: He told me everything I ever did. Her vulnerability became the bridge that led others to the truth.

Notice how Jesus didn't just pass through; He stayed for two days. He took the time to have deep conversations, answer questions, and build relationships. He showed that the Gospel isn't just a quick announcement—it’s an invitation to sit and dwell in His presence. Because of this the townspeople moved from believing because of her to believing because of Him. This is the goal of every healthy faith journey. Someone else’s story can point you to the door, but you have to walk through it yourself to truly know Jesus as your own Savior.

We often feel intimidated by the idea of "evangelism." We think we need to win arguments or have perfect scripts. But this woman models the most effective way to share faith: she didn't try to prove anything; she just invited them to "come and see" for themselves. She knew that if they just met Jesus, He would be able to do the rest. Your job isn't to convert people—your job is to introduce them to the Person who can.

Who is one person in your life who might benefit from an invitation to "come and see" Jesus through your actions or your conversation? Instead of feeling the pressure to "save" them with your words, how can you simply point them toward Jesus and trust Him to do the work in their heart?

LIFE GROUP READING DAY 4: JOHN 4:27-38

In our reading today the disciples were focused on the physical need for lunch, Jesus was focused on a spiritual mission. He turned a simple interaction with one woman into an opportunity to reach an entire town. Notice the woman’s reaction. She came to the well carrying a heavy water jar, but after meeting Jesus, she left it behind. She was so excited that she forgot what she came for. When you truly encounter Jesus, your old "burdens" and priorities suddenly don't seem as important as sharing the news of who He is.

The disciples were confused, thinking someone brought Jesus food. But Jesus explains that fulfilling God's mission gave Him more energy than a physical meal. When we align our lives with God's purpose, we find a different kind of strength—a passion that sustains us even when we're tired.

The disciples were thinking about the future (four months until the harvest). Jesus was thinking about right now. He saw the people coming from the town and realized that the "harvest" of souls wasn't a distant event—it was happening in front of their eyes. We often wait for the "perfect time" to share our faith or to live out our purpose. We think, "I'll do that when I'm more qualified," or "I'll wait until things are calmer." Jesus challenges us to "open our eyes." The people around you—your neighbors, your coworkers, your family—are often more ready to hear about God than you think. You don't need a formal program or a special title to participate in the harvest; you just need to be willing to point others toward the One who changed your life.

Sometimes we are so caught up in our own daily routines and "to-do" lists that we miss the divine appointments God has placed in front of us. Are you currently viewing your life as a series of chores to get through, or as a field ready for harvest? What is one "water jar"—one distraction or burden—you can set aside today so that you have the freedom to look around and see where God is inviting you to join His work?

LIFE GROUP READING DAY 3: JOHN 4:19-26

In our reading today Jesus gently revealed He knew the secrets of this woman’s life, she tried to shift the conversation to a "safer" theological debate: Where is the right place to worship? She was focused on the external—the mountains, the buildings, and the traditions. However, Jesus completely changes the game. He explains that God is not tied to a specific building or a holy mountain. He is revealing that the "temple" is no longer a structure made of stone; it is the person whose life is connected to Him.

Consider what it means to worship in "spirit and truth"? First, of all it means worship that is real and right. In Spirit: It’s not just going through the motions or following a ritual; it’s an internal, heartfelt connection fueled by the Holy Spirit. In Truth: It’s worship that aligns with who God actually is, as revealed by Jesus. You can’t worship a "version" of God you made up in your head; you worship the One who speaks truth.

In one of the most powerful moments in the Bible, Jesus—a man sitting by a dusty well, talking to a social outcast—claims the title of Messiah. He didn't reveal this to the religious leaders in the temple; He revealed it to a woman who was thirsty for more than just water. Often we act like we are the ones "seeking" God, but Jesus says something even better: The Father is seeking you. He is looking for people who will be honest and open with Him. You don’t need to be in a certain building or dressed in a certain way to be heard by God. He wants your heart, your honesty, and your presence.

Do you sometimes feel like you have to "perform" or be in a certain "spiritual state" before you can really approach God? How would it change your prayer life today if you truly believed that God isn't looking for a perfect performance, but is instead "seeking" your honest, heart-felt attention right where you are?

LIFE GROUP READING DAY 2: JOHN 4:11-18

In our reading today Jesus’ conversation with the woman takes a sharp turn from physical water to something much deeper. Jesus points out a basic truth: physical things—like the water from Jacob's well—only offer temporary relief. Whether it's money, success, relationships, or comfort, the things of this world leave us "thirsty again." We are designed with a God-sized hole that no earthly thing can completely fill. Jesus offers a "spring of water" that bubbles up from inside. He isn't offering a one-time fix; He is offering a permanent relationship. Once we encounter Him, we have a source of life that stays with us regardless of our outward circumstances.

Suddenly, Jesus pivots to her personal life. It might seem abrupt, but it’s actually the most loving thing He could do. He isn't trying to shame her; He is showing her that He knows her. She had been trying to fill her "thirst" with one relationship after another, and none of them worked. Jesus is showing her that her search for love and belonging can only be satisfied in Him.

How often do we find ourselves like this woman, returning to the same "wells" over and over, hoping this time they will finally satisfy us? We think, “If I just get that promotion, I’ll be happy,” or “If I can just find the right person, I’ll be complete.”
Jesus isn't condemning us for our past or our mistakes. He is simply telling us the truth: you are looking in the wrong place. He wants to take away the exhaustion of trying to satisfy your soul with things that were never meant to hold that much weight.

What "well" have you been drinking from lately that leaves you feeling empty, tired, or longing for more? Are you willing to admit to Jesus—just as she did—that those things aren't working, and ask Him to provide the "living water" that only He can give?

LIFE GROUP READING DAY 1: JOHN 4:1-10

In our reading today we see how Jesus ignores human-made boundaries to reach the people others would ignore. John says Jesus "had to go through Samaria." Geographically, He didn't have to; most Jews took a long detour to avoid Samaria because of the deep racial and religious tension between the two groups. But Jesus had a divine appointment. He wasn't following the path of convenience; He was following the path of the Father's heart.

Jesus was tired and thirsty. It is a powerful reminder that He truly became human. He sat by a well at noon—the hottest, most uncomfortable time of day—meeting a woman who likely came at that hour to avoid the gossip and judgment of other women in town. Jesus starts the conversation with a simple, vulnerable request: "Will you give me a drink?" He bridges a massive social gap by making Himself "needy." By asking for a drink, He opens the door for a conversation about a much deeper need. He offers her "living water"—a spiritual refreshment that she didn't even know she was thirsty for.

We all have people in our lives that we naturally "take a detour" around—people we think are too different from us, too far gone, or just "not our kind." But Jesus shows us that the most important conversations often happen right in the middle of our "detours." Grace has a way of erasing the lines that divide us. Jesus didn't see a "Samaritan woman" or a social outcast; He saw a soul that was parched for the truth. He reminds us that if we want to share His love, we have to be willing to sit in the uncomfortable places and be willing to start a conversation.

Is there a person or a group of people you have been "avoiding" or looking down upon lately? What is one way you can be more like Jesus this week by looking past the "labels" and finding a way to start a conversation that shows them the kindness and love of God?
