Day 664 of 1,000
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
1 Corinthians 15:20 (NIV)

We are prone to rushing through life’s profound moments, pushing past our emotional responses under the silent pressure to keep moving. Yet, every now and then, a moment stops us in our tracks, inviting us to pause and realize we are standing on holy ground. The ancient promise of resurrection—a truth mirrored in our baptism—is far more than a conceptual insurance policy for a distant future. It is a present-tense reality that reminds us our lives are bound to an eternal horizon, which completely drains the sting of immediate fear, anxiety, and the shadow of death. When we intentionally decide to halt our inner hurry, we find the grace to dwell in his faithful presence right here in the middle of our ordinary days.

Day 663 of 1,000
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:7–8 (MSG)

We often treat love as something we must manufacture for ourselves. When we feel generous, patient, and kind, love seems abundant. When we are tired, frustrated, or wounded, it feels scarce. John offers a different perspective. Love does not begin with us. It begins with God. We are not the source; we are the recipients. That truth changes everything. When we believe love depends entirely on our own strength, we become fearful of running out. We protect ourselves, withhold grace, and keep careful accounts of who deserves what. But when we remember that God is the source of love, we no longer have to live with that scarcity mindset. We can extend grace because grace has been extended to us. We can forgive because we have been forgiven. We can love because we have first been loved. And that simple truth has the power to reshape both our relationships and our hearts.

Day 662 of 1,000
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13:34–35 (ERV)

Love is often easier to admire than to practice. We naturally love people who are kind to us, agree with us, or make life easier. But Jesus points us toward something deeper. He does not tell us to love others because they deserve it or because they will return the favor. He tells us to love as he has loved us. That kind of love is not based on a transaction. It is a choice to move toward others with grace, patience, and compassion even when it costs us something. Left to ourselves, our supply of love eventually runs dry. We start keeping score, protecting our resources, and rationing our affection. But Jesus invites us to draw from a different source. The more we receive his love, the more we discover that we have something meaningful to share with others. And when that happens, love becomes more than a feeling. It becomes a witness to the presence of Christ in our lives.

Day 661 of 1,000
They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished...
Luke 2:16-18 (NLT)

Many of us assume that God primarily works through the strong, the influential, or the people who seem to have everything together. We naturally place the gifted, successful, and visible at the center of the story while quietly placing ourselves somewhere near the edge. Yet Scripture repeatedly turns that expectation upside down. God has a way of partnering with ordinary people, overlooked people, and people who do not feel qualified enough for the task in front of them. Maybe that is because his kingdom has never been built on status or reputation. It has always been built on grace. The invitation is not to convince ourselves that we are extraordinary. It is simply to trust that God does extraordinary things through ordinary people who are willing to respond. Sometimes what feels small or insignificant in our hands becomes part of a much bigger story in his.

Day 660 of 1,000
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
John 21:16 (ERV)

Routines are both a gift and a challenge. They help us move through life, but over time they can quietly become something else. What once carried passion and purpose can slowly drift into habit, familiarity, or simply going through the motions. That can happen in relationships, in work, and even in our life with God. Peter knew both the excitement of first following Jesus and the pain of losing his way. He loved Jesus deeply, yet still denied and deserted him. But Peter’s failure was not the end of his story. Jesus met him again in a familiar place and with familiar words: “Follow me.” That is the beauty of faithful love. Jesus does not withdraw his love when we wander, lose focus, or grow distant. His love remains steady, continuing to call us back toward himself. And sometimes what feels like an ending is actually an invitation to begin again.

Day 659 of 1,000
But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Romans 7:23–25 (NLT)

There is a strange tension we all recognize within ourselves. We want to do what is right, be patient, choose wisely, love well, and live faithfully. Yet somewhere between our intentions and our actions, something goes sideways. We drift, react, or repeat patterns we thought we had already outgrown. Paul speaks with surprising honesty about that struggle because he knows the battle is real. The temptation is to believe that if we just try harder, become more disciplined, or perform better, we can finally fix ourselves. But eventually we discover the limits of our own effort. Grace begins where self-rescue ends. Jesus did not come simply to give us a better set of rules or stronger motivation. He came to rescue us from carrying a burden we were never meant to carry alone. The invitation is not toward striving harder to save ourselves, but toward trusting more deeply in the One who already has.

Day 658 of 1,000
While Jesus was walking, he saw a man who had been blind since the time he was born. Jesus’ followers asked him, “Teacher, why was this man born blind? Whose sin made it happen? Was it his own sin or that of his parents?” Jesus answered, “It was not any sin of this man or his parents that caused him to be blind. He was born blind so that he could be used to show what great things God can do.
John 9:1-3 (ERV)

When difficult things happen, one of our first instincts is to ask, “Why?” We search for causes, explanations, and sometimes even someone to blame. We wonder if we did something wrong or if God is somehow punishing us. Jesus redirects that instinct in a surprising way. He shifts the focus away from blame and toward redemption. Not because suffering itself is good, but because God has a way of entering painful and confusing places and bringing something meaningful from them. Much of life feels unfinished while we are living it. The details can seem random, disconnected, or difficult to understand. But our story is still unfolding. We often cannot see the larger picture while standing in the middle of it. The invitation is not to pretend hardship is easy, but to trust that God is not a bad storyteller. He is still writing, still redeeming, and still shaping our lives in ways we may only understand much later.
