THE ANGLICAN CHURCH

As our Lord Jesus walked this Earth, He was fulfilling God's plan for humanity and all creation to be redeemed by overcoming the sin and death that separated us from God, so that we might once again know and be with the God who loved us first. His work included preparing those first Apostles for the day He would return to heaven, yet through His Spirit remain with us always. A

t Holy Redeemer, we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion rooted in that one, holy and Apostolic Church. For us, the Word of God revealed in the Bible is just that...God's Word whose truths are just as relevant today as they were when inspired. The Spirit of God works in and through His people. The people of God are called to love one another and even their enemies. And they are called to share there testimony, their witness of Christ in their lives today. Discover more about Anglicanism at

WHAT WE BELIEVE AS ANGLICANS
FROM THE ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF THE LIVING WORD

We rejoice in the gospel of God through which we have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We proclaim and submit to the unique and universal Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God written and to contain all things necessary for salvation. We uphold the four Ecumenical Councils and the three historic Creeds [and] the Thirty-nine Articles. We rejoice in our Anglican sacramental and liturgical heritage. We uphold the classic Anglican Ordinal as an authoritative standard of clerical orders. We gladly accept the Great Commission of the risen Lord. We are mindful of our responsibility to be good stewards of God's creation, uphold and advocate justice in society, and to seek relief and empowerment of the poor and needy. We are committed to the unity of all those who know and love Christ and to building authentic ecumenical relationships. We celebrate the God-given diversity among us...acknowledge freedom in secondary matters...[and] pledge to work together to seek the mind of Christ on issues that divide us. WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT OUR LIVES IN CHRIST AT HOLY REDEEMER

It's not what we believe as humans that really matters. It's that we believe and embrace what God has revealed that matters. We acknowledge it's a fallen world, and thus, a confusing world. We also understand the judgment of women, men and the world has been given to Jesus by God. And so we must not judge others but always remember everyone in this fallen world falls short of God's glory, except through Christ. Ay Holy Redeemer, we strive to love all of God's people because God loves everyone and desires His best for them. We also acknowledge that in Scripture God has revealed His expectations about our relationship to Him and to each other. The truths revealed in the Bible, truths revealed by Jesus. apply today just as they did when Inspired and must be lived out and proclaimed in love. Women and men are created in God's Triune image and this creation begins at conception. We've no right to terminate a life He has created. And we've no right to alter the image in which He created us. Marriage is the sacramental union between one man and one woman. Their lives together with God symbolizes the union between Christ and His Church. Human sexuality is a gift from God which is reserved for marriage. Sexual relations outside of marriage is a misuse of this gift. In obedience to the Word of God, we believe in the unique Lordship of Jesus Christ, that He is the Way to God and the Way to God's Kingdom on earth and heaven. Our salvation is only found through faith in Christ. WHERE WE'RE GOING

He who began a good work in you, will bring it to completion... Philippians 1:6
The answer is we're going where God leads us! It's His Church, not ours. We get to be part of the journey He has planned for us. The first part of that journey was to learn to love each other. This group cared for each other for sure, but we really needed to spend time in worship and community learning what it means to love one another, just as I have loved you as Jesus told His Disciples long ago. And now...now this is where you come in. It's time to spread the Gospel, to reach out into the world that Jesus might work through us for people everywhere to know Him. What an incredible privilege! And so we invite you to come and see for yourself God's work in progress, the people of Holy Redeemer Anglican Church. Maybe, just maybe, He's calling you to be part of this community of faith. FELLOWSHIP DINNERS

Family dinners are more than a tradition. They are found everywhere in the Bible! Because sharing food and fellowship is a cornerstone in the building of relationships. And our Lord Himself instituted a very special meal at the Last Supper, didn't He? At Holy Redeemer, parishioners take turns hosting small dinners once a month to build our bonds of friendship in a safe place to let down our guards as we share our joys and our troubles. We are all broken and in need of the true friendship that comes from Jesus and His Church Family. Sometimes we even share a night out! COMMUNITY GARDEN

There's something wonderful about eating fruits and vegetables grown by one's own efforts. Cultivating the soil, planting the seeds, nurturing those plants as they grow helps us to appreciate God's beautiful earth and His provision for us. Now imagine doing that very thing together within a Community of Faith. That's exactly what we do at Holy Redeemer. Anyone who wants a bed for plants gets one. The fruit these beds provide feeds your family, the worshipping community and our local friends in need. And we pray the very same Lord who provides this fruit for our bellies will also produce the fruit of His Kingdom through each of us working together. DISCIPLESHIP

Being a Disciple of Jesus Christ is a way of life...His way of life. To follow Jesus is a life of obedience and service. In the power of His Spirit, we pray that we know Jesus a little more today than we did yesterday, that we trust Him more everyday. To follow Him is to know His joy, His peace and His holiness in our lives. This takes a commitment on our part. We know Jesus will do his part! Ours is to be diligent in worship, prayer, and study. It's to forgive others knowing He forgives us, to show mercy knowing His mercy, and to reach out to others in love, just, as the prayer book reminds us, Jesus once stretched out His arms of love on the hardwood of a cross that all might come within His saving embrace. DAILY PRAYER

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
It's been said that the primary mission of the Church is to pray. Prayer is an important part of our lives and in the life of Holy Redeemer. Our Lord himself prayed often in the Gospels. As a matter of fact, He continues to pray for us even now and is joined by angels and saints and all the company of heaven who are rooting for us. One of our parishioners, Lynn, sends out a daily prayer for Holy Redeemer via email. She has often shared how surprised she has been at the ways this daily prayer has shaped her days and life. We would like you to join us in praying daily for whatever our Lord puts on Lynn's heart. She also welcomes your prayer requests of course. Please contact Holy Redeemer to be added to this growing prayer chain. BIBLE STUDIES

Hearing the Word of God is one thing
Understanding it another
Living it yet another

ANGLICAN CATECHISM

Paraphrasing To Be A Christian, the Anglican Catechism...
The Anglican Catechism is a study designed to teach what it means to be a Christian. The study shows "students" what is essential for Christian faith and life. It opens the door to knowing Jesus Christ and the wonder of God's love through Him. It shows us what it means to be a citizen in God's Kingdom and fully involved in the life and mission of Christ's Church. And it helps anchor us in the reality of God's unquenchable joy, beginning in this life and ever increasing in the life to come. Catechism classes are part of the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Anglican Church. The study may also be taken for one's own edification. Participants should be at least 14 years of age. To find out more, please contact Father Matt

OUTREACH

Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...Truly I say to you, as you did it to the least of one of these my brothers, you did it to me. There are a lot of hurting people in this world. A lot of them closer to home than we sometimes realize. A lot of folks who need comfort and companionship, food and a roof over their heads, encouragement and hope. And we all need to be set free in Christ. Holy Redeemer is just getting started in outreach. It's exciting because our outreach will flow from God's grace as He grows His Church. Stay tuned because God is beginning to stretch His hands out through His new Church. TITHE FOR MISSIONS

Bishop Dobbs often speaks of missions or outreach as bee's buzzing. What's the buzz in your church, he asks? Are people excited about supporting missions, helping others, spreading the Gospel. If so, he says, one can hear the buzz like bees in a hive. Well, there's a buzz at Holy Redeemer. The first 10% of our Sunday collection every month is given to those in need. It's the very first check we write. The first fruits of our Lord's generosity flowing through His people to support His people in need. The folks at Holy Redeemer know this to be not only our Lord's command, but an act of His love also. HOLY REDEEMER'S RECTOR

The Reverend Mathew Baker
Father Matt worked for the Episcopal Diocese of Albany for more than 25 years. He began as the Director of Beaver Cross, the Diocesan Camp & Conference Center in Cooperstown NY. During that time, he was also appointed the first ever Youth Ministry Director for the Diocese. In 2002, Bishop Herzog charged him with leading the team to consolidate Beaver Cross and several other Diocesan facilities into one Spiritual Life Center in Greenwich NY. After a decade plus as the Canon Director of Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, our Lord called Father Matt to the priesthood in 2013 and soon after called him as the Rector of Saint Luke's in nearby Cambridge. The same Lord then led him to serve in the Diocese of the Living Word where he is both excited and humbled to be the founding Rector of Holy Redeemer Anglican Church. Although Father Matt loves a good theological debate, his passion lies in the everyday people of God; of caring for Christ's people, teaching in ways people of all abilities and experience can understand, and helping folks discover the many ways God is working in and through their lives. THE SISTERS OF ST. MARY'S CONVENT

Ever wonder what a Convent is all about? A convent is a group of women called by God to live together in community. They are to be part of the Church by being an example of what the Church should be. The rings they wear on their right hands symbolize that their lives are dedicated to Christ, with Christ and in Christ. It's a life of prayer, worship, and study. It's also a life of teaching, outreach, and extending God's love into the world. Just like the Church! Holy Redeemer is blessed to be part of the Sister's life in Christ. The Sister's of St. Mary's have welcomed us into their home and hearts. In partnership with the St. Mary's sisters, they have agreed for a permanent sharing of their St. Mary's Chapel and ocommon areas for worship and fellowship needs. It is always our prayer that they too will be blessed by our life with them. To find our more about the Sisters of St. Mary, visit

Almighty God, who shewest to them that be in error, the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness; Grant unto all them that are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's religion, that they may eschew those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

I am reaching out on behalf of Holy Redeemer Church. We have a group called Humble Helpers, who are looking to serve Cambridge and surrounding communities through a team project, and we wanted to see if there might be any way we could help YOU!

We are simply looking for a opportunity to be a blessing to you. Some ideas we had in mind include cleaning, minor painting, organizing, raking, helping with small projects-- but we are open to anything you think might be helpful.

Our goal is just to serve and give back in a practical way. If there's anything that would lighten your load- even if its just a little, we'd love to help and be a blessing to you.

If you have any question or idea in mind please give me a call!
518-692-9770

We would love the opportunity to serve you!

Blessings,
Lynn Wilbur,
Warden at Holy Redeemer Church.
