Last day! Preparing to come home. Witnessed real examples of Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) churches where Pastor Seth preached.
Then today a sheepdog demonstration before heading into Edinburgh for the rest of the (rainy ... finally) day.
Then back “home” to our last night at Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott.

We left Iona, likely traveling routes monks of old journeyed to bring good news of God’s Love to the world. And so we ponder what light we bring, what inspiration we live, what hope we share.
Pics of the Abbey last / final night , then this morning as we’re leaving (especially nice poetic metaphorically suggestive cloud / light formation).

A bit more rainy day for centering and celebrating ... which started with baking scones. (Seth desiring and learning but no promised miracle of multiplication ... need Jesus for that!)
Evening entertainment - a ceilidh where the talent and good humor and relationships that have blossomed during the week radiated among us to fill our hearts and memories. FPCG folks sharing gifts of song.

Day 6:
Went on pilgrimage around the island ... pondering how we journey in like spirit through all of life.
Starting outside the Abbey at the oldest standing stone cross on the island and in Scotland.
Then to the Augustinian Nunnery whose fallen stones have been repurposed into many of the other homes and buildings on the island.
To the Machair — a grazing field that doubles as a golf course (which unique obstacles rarely found on other refined greens and fairways).
To the bay where St. Columba landed in the 7th century.
And finally, the marble quarry where the altar / table in the Abbey church among many other pieces throughout Britain was hewn … as we are all hewn in beauty from the rock ignoring creation and salvation.

Day 5: Settling into rhythms of life and worship:
The cloister at the center of the Abbey, including a depiction of the Holy Spirit by a Jewish sculptor.
And if every stone in the wall has a story, as if mortared there by a divine hand, there remains a place … for each of us in our way.

Day 3 and 4

On our pilgrim journey, we have arrived!
“O God, send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.” (Psalm 42:3)
The ferry on which we left the mainland. Then another smaller one with a first view of the Isle of Iona. Then getting closer ashore. Walking through town to our home for the week.
And so, we have arrived! And so, the pilgrim journey continues in depths of heart and relationship, into God’s light and truth, as we get to know new friends in Christ literally spanning the globe from Japan and Singapore to other parts of Canada and the US, and of course, all around the UK and Europe.

Urquhart castle on the shores of Loch Ness
Folk museum spanning 400-200 years ago
Glencoe
All while discussing Adam Smith, engineering advances, population clearances, power of education, flowing from faith in those times to ethical questions and realities in ours.
Tonight we dine and sleep in seaside town of Oban. Tomorrow it’s on the ferry for the final leg to Iona.
