We have had a great week of VBS, thank you for your prayers. You will get a chance to hear some of the music and verses the kids have learned during our morning worship service.

Morning Service: Meet the Son (Hebrews 1)

I find in my message preparation that the beginning of the message is often the hardest to write. In most messages I write, it is the beginning of the message that I often write last. Looking for the special “hook” that will begin to get people thinking on the awesome truth God has for them. If Hebrews was originally a sermon, whoever put that sermon together (by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) nailed the beginning. There is no better beginning to any sermon than how this one begins; an awe-inspiring description of Jesus!

To prepare yourself to be ready to worship when the service begins, these are the songs the worship team has been working on for Sunday.

Open Up the Heavens
VBS Music
Bright and Glorious

Take some time and listen to them on your favorite streaming app and come ready to sing them together with the rest of your church family Sunday morning.

Evening Service: Dreams Fulfilled – Part 2 (Genesis 41)

Joseph spent another two years in jail after he correctly interpreted the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker. However, as this story teaches us, God’s timing is always perfect. Pharoah has two dreams that shake his world and finds no one in his kingdom who can interpret them. At that precise moment, the cupbearer remembers Joseph. By the end of this chapter, the two dreams God gave Joseph so many years before begin to be fulfilled.

Happy Friday! June is now upon us and with it summer vacation for the kids (and teachers). I still remember that excitement of the last day of school knowing nothing but summer days were ahead of me. I wish we could bottle that feeling and bring it into our adult life sometimes. We really didn’t know how good we had it as kids; adulting can be hard. Precisely why we need Jesus! I look forward to our summer series in Hebrews entitled Jesus is Greater… It begins this Sunday! The Sunday school classes and adult connections groups will also be looking at Hebrews in the 9:15 hour. If you haven’t been part of one of these groups, now would be a great time to start.

We also have another mainstay of summer beginning on Sunday: VBS! From Sunday evening through Thursday evening (6-8:30pm) we will explore with the kids Psalm 23 and tie that in with the life of David. Please be in prayer for this great ministry. I look forward to the excitement of having our building filled with kids each night. If you haven’t registered your children, you can do so via our website (fbcgreenville.com).

Morning Service: Jesus is Greater (Hebrews Introduction)

We are about to embark on a very exciting journey over the summer months. In all our Sunday school and connections classes and in our time together in our worship services we are going to focus on the fact that Jesus is greater. This is the overarching theme of the book of Hebrews. Greater than what you might ask? The list is infinite because Jesus is greater that all we see and know.

We will also have the opportunity to celebrate our high school graduates and observe communion together.

To prepare yourself to be ready to worship when the service begins, these are the songs the worship team has been working on for Sunday.

One True God

O Come to the Altar
O Church Come and Lift Your Eyes

I hope your week has gone well and you were able to get out and enjoy some of this beautiful weather. I look forward to our time together on Sunday.

Morning Service: Test Time – Part 2 (2 Corinthians 13:6-14)

Last Sunday the focus was on the following verse:

2Cor. 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you — unless indeed you fail the test?

My question to you, did you test yourself? Did you have an honest look in the spiritual mirror and ask the Holy Spirit to point out what needs work in your spiritual lives? Do you see Jesus in your life? Paul will finish off his encouragements along this line as we look together at the rest of this final chapter of 2 Corinthians.

To prepare yourself to be ready to worship when the service begins, these are the songs the worship team has been working on for Sunday.

Your Great Name
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
Not for a Moment
Come People of the Risen King

Take some time and listen to them on your favorite streaming app and come ready to sing them together with the rest of your church family Sunday morning.

Evening Service: God is with Joseph in Jail (Genesis 40)

The ending verse of the previous chapter sets the tone for Joseph’s experiences in jail:

Gen. 39:23 The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s charge because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper.

God was with Joseph in jail and as a result Joseph was able to interpret the dreams of a couple of Pharaoh’s high-ranking officials. This chapter is more than just the dreams. In it we see the relationship between Joseph and His God even during some of life’s most trying circumstances.

Happy Friday – I am looking forward to a busy weekend ahead of us.

Tonight – at 6pm bring out the entire family for a photo scavenger hunt around this great city of Greenville. It will be fun for everyone. We will team up everyone who shows up and have a great time. Bring a dessert to share later in the evening. You won’t want to miss it.

Tomorrow – beginning at 9am is our annual church workday. Please bring rakes and shovels to spread woodchips. Many things will also be done inside if yard work is not your thing. We usually wrap things up about noon.

Sunday brings the greatest part of the weekend, worshipping together to the glory of our Lord.

Morning Service: In My Defense (2 Corinthians 12:11-21)

We only have three more sermons in 2 Corinthians left. We are currently in a section where Paul is defending his apostleship to the church. In this text we will see that even though he has been falsely accused repeatedly, he defends himself by calling attention to his actions in humility and his love for God and this church. We learn much from this section in how to deal with our own sinfulness and the conflicts it might cause.

To prepare yourself to be ready to worship when the service begins, these are the songs the worship team has been working on for Sunday.

Revelation Song
Forgiven
Yet Not I But Christ in Me
Christus Victor (Amen)

Take some time and listen to them on your favorite streaming app and come ready to sing them together with the rest of your church family Sunday morning.

Evening Service: The Lord was with Joseph (Genesis 39)

The phrase, “the Lord was with…” occurs four times in this chapter. Even though Joseph moves from slave to prisoner it is very clear that the Lord was with him. Even though he was falsely accused by Potipher’s wife, he was obedient in God’s sight and God blessed him for it. There is much to be learned and applied to our everyday lives in this chapter.

I hope you are doing well today. I am looking forward to another great weekend, one where we get to celebrate the moms in our lives. I am thankful for my mom and looking forward to spending time with her on Sunday. We will get the opportunity to spend extended time with Kristin’s mom in a couple weeks. I am also very thankful for the mother of my children; Kris has done an amazing job with our girls. This year we have added a mom to our family; Lauren is doing great beginning her adventure into motherhood and we all look forward to meeting baby Sweet this fall.

Morning Service: Mother’s Day Lessons from Mary (Luke 1:26-38)

Have you ever wondered when Americans started celebrating Mother's Day? The holiday was born out of one woman's desire to honor her mother's life of sacrifice and grace. On May 8, 1914, a resolution was passed and the U.S. Congress officially established the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Many years before that a young girl found out she was going to be a mother from the message of an angel. We will explore the promises God gave to Mary and by application see the truth God intended for all moms.

We will also have the opportunity to not just think about the birth of Christ but also His death and resurrection as we observe communion together.

Happy Friday! Please be in prayer for our group of men who are heading to Camp Barakel this weekend for a men’s retreat. I will be joining them, and we look forward to a spiritually refreshing time away.

Morning Service: Law and Grace (Galatians 2:20-3:14)

I am thankful for John Frank’s willingness to speak in the morning service while I am away. Please read the above text and come ready to worship and thank God for the grace He has given us.
To prepare yourself to be ready to worship when the service begins, these are the songs the worship team has been working on for Sunday.

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)
Jesus Thank You
Speak O Lord
His Mercy is More

Take some time and listen to them on your favorite streaming app and come ready to sing them together with the rest of your church family Sunday morning.

Evening Service: What the Veil Hides (Genesis 38)

In this chapter, Tamar tricks her father-in-law Judah into getting her pregnant. God’s Word does not sugar coat the sinful events in the family of Judah. The content of this chapter is not suitable for children. As we consider the sinfulness on mankind (God exercises capital punishment on two individuals because of their extreme sinfulness) we can learn much that will help us resist sin in our own lives.
