Mayor Errick D. Simmons Encourages Youth Participation in "Youth Voices Speak on Community Food and Wellness" Juried Video Invitational
Mayor Errick D. Simmons and the City of Greenville Mayor’s Youth Council proudly support the upcoming Juried Video Invitational for Youth: "Youth Voices Speak on Community Food and Wellness," an engaging opportunity for Washington County students, ages 13–18, to creatively share their perspectives on the connection between food, wellness, and community health.
This initiative invites students to submit original 3–5 minute videos highlighting either:
Community wellness practices — such as sports, dance, cheerleading, yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, martial arts, and other activities that promote mental and physical health; or
The community food environment — such as family or community gardening, local farmers markets, food preparation, or cultural traditions around food.
All video submissions should reflect how the featured activity nurtures the mind, body, and/or spirit for a healthier community.
Key Dates:
🔹 Registration Deadline: April 24, 2025
🔹 Video Submission Deadline: May 16, 2025
To participate, students must complete a registration form (available at www.thirdwardzen.net/delta-roots-festival) and submit it via email to [email protected]. Each submission must also include the name and contact information of a parent and an optional teacher sponsor who supports the student’s project.
“Giving our youth the space to tell their stories and elevate their voices is critical to building a healthier and more connected Greenville,” said Mayor Simmons. “We’re proud to support this unique platform that puts our students at the forefront of community change.”
This initiative is hosted by Third Ward Zen and supported by community wellness advocates throughout the Mississippi Delta. More information and updates can be found on the Third Ward Zen page.
