ECU friends and family,
We among the religious life community are saddened by the injustices done in the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. Their stories and others like them have become all too common in our country and our world. No words could undo the pain that our black friends and family are feeling and experiencing.
It is the mission of the ECU Religious Life Organization to be among the people of our campus and to provide places of hope, love, and belonging to all who work, study, and live here. We realize that this statement, while wide and encompassing, is shallow if we as a body are not committed to eliminating injustice in all forms. There is no justice at all if there is not justice for all. In this time of such heartache, we encourage all who belong to religious groups to send forth prayers and to start conversations with those around you as we continue to pursue true racial reconciliation. We want all people to know that we are available for you no matter where you are emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Whether you are looking for a safe place to share your heart or you are trying to figure out where to begin, we are here for you.
Black members of our community are hurting. We come from similar places geographically, but our experiences tell different stories. We want to be a people of unity by standing with those who mourn, fighting for those who have been hurt, and walking through life with those we come in contact with. Our thoughts and prayers are with our students, faculty, and staff.
Be Blessed,
The Religious Life Organization Officers
