DAY 14 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

DAY 15 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Meaning of Psalm 14

In Psalm 14, David speaks out against those who donโ€™t acknowledge God and live evil lies. He writes, โ€œThe fool says in his heart, โ€˜There is no God.โ€™โ€ While they refuse to acknowledge God, they live in constant fear of His reality and the support He gives to those who love Him.

The Meaning of Psalm 15

In Psalm 15, David writes about those who enjoy the privilege of fellowship with God. The upright and righteous man is approved by God and will find a home in His presence. David lists a number of attributes men should strive for in order to live a goldy life.

Heavenly Father, thank You that by grace through faith I have the privilege to enter into the presence of the Lord and abide in Christ and He in me. I pray that I may walk with integrity, truthfulness, humility, and grace, and I pray that in Your strength, I may bring forth godly works of righteousness for Your name's sake. May my actions and attitudes reflect the godly characteristics that are pleasing in Your sight. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

DAY 13 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Meaning of Psalm 13

In Psalm 13, David writes about his distress after a long oppression from his enemies. He is tempted to believe God has abandoned him because Godโ€™s deliverance has been so long in coming. But David did not buy into the lie that God had forgotten him. He concludes the Psalm by expressing his confidence that God will once again provide him salvation from his trouble. He concludes by saying, โ€œI will sing to the Lord, because He has looked after meโ€ (13:6, NASB).

The Meaning of Psalm 11
In Psalm 11, David finds himself in a troubling situation with his adversaries. His advisors encourage him to โ€œflee like a birdโ€ to safety, but Davidโ€™s trust is in the Lord. He stands his ground and cries out to the Lord deliverance.

You see every situation I am facing. Give me the courage to stand firm, trust in Your justice, and keep my eyes fixed on You.
Remind me in moments of fear that I can see your face, because of what you have done. In Jesus' name we pray! Amen.

A SUMMER THROUGH THE PSALMS

DAY 10 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Meaning of Psalm 10
The psalmist begins Psalm 10 expressing his frustration that the wicked flourish on the earth despite their rebellion against God and crimes against their fellow man. This is a natural frustration experienced by many people. At the end of the Psalm, the writer concludes that God is not indifferent to evil and He will certainly judge evil men, even if He doesnโ€™t do it as swiftly as we might want or expect.

Heavenly Father,
Why do You seem to stand so far away? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble? I look at the brokenness of this world, the pride of the arrogant, and the suffering of the innocent, and my heart aches for Your intervention.
Lord, the wicked scheme in the shadows, taking advantage of the helpless and boasting as if You do not see or require an account. I bring the pain, the oppression, and the fear I see around me to You. Please, expose the wicked plans and protect the vulnerable.
But even when I cannot see You working, I choose to declare Your truth. Arise, O Lord! Lift up Your hand, O God; do not forget the afflicted.
I commit my burdens to You, for You are the helper of the fatherless and the oppressed. I thank You that You see the trouble and grief of the humble, and You take it into Your own hands. Strengthen my heart today. Help me to trust in Your eternal reign and to rest in the peace that You hear my cry. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A SUMMER THROUGH THE PSALMS

DAY 9 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Meaning of Psalm 9

David begins the Psalm 9 praising God for His previous deeds, specifically His deliverance of David from his enemies. David presented God as the afflicter of the evil man, and the avenger of the afflicted man. He encouraged people to โ€œsing praises to the Lordโ€ for this characteristic. Towards the end of the psalm, we see a statement of optimism about the future. David writes, โ€œFor the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish foreverโ€ (9:18).

A Prayer from Psalm 9
Heavenly Father,
We give wholehearted thanks to you, Lord; we will tell of all your wonderful deeds. We will be glad and rejoice in you; we will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. We pray that your Holy Spirit will inspire us to look to you in times of trouble. We will only look to you for justice and deliverance. There is no need for us to be anxious about the work of the wicked because you are โ€known by acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the works of their own hands.โ€

Father, you never forget the needy, you do not ignore the cries of the afflicted; their hope will never perish. You, O Lord, reign forever; you have established your throne for judgment. You rule the world in righteousness and you judge the peoples with equity. You are our refuge and our strength, we trust in you. We will tell of all your wonderful deeds, now and forevermore. In Jesus' name, Amen!

A SUMMER THROUGH THE PSALMS

DAY 8 -- PLEASE READ PSALM IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Meaning of Psalm 8
David opened this Psalm praising God for His magnificence. Godโ€™s name is to be praised in all the earth, and Godโ€™s glory exceeds the heavens. After observing and meditating on the beauty of creation, David expressed amazement that a God so powerful cared about him. God not only cares for humans but gives them an exalted place in the creation. Human beings are given glory and honor and are just slightly inferior to the heavenly beings that live with God.

๐Ÿ™ [COPIED]

Lord, how amazing you are! How awesome in every way! Your majesty exceeds all other power, all other authority, all other glory.

Yet, you have chosen to care about human beings, to care even about me and my life. Even more, you have crowned us with glory and honor, creating us in your own image. You have given us authority over this world, that we might manage it well, helping it to be fruitful and full.

In my work this day, I will use some portion of the authority you have delegated. The work I do is one way for me to obey you, honor you, and worship you. May you be glorified, Lord, in all of my work today, every bit. May a vision of your majesty inspire me to serve you with faithfulness and excellence as I work. To you be all the glory! Amen.

A SUMMER THROUGH THE PSALMS

DAY 6 & 7 -- PLEASE READ PSALMS IN ITS ENTIRETY

[The Meaning of Psalm 6]
In the sixth Psalm, David calls out to the Lord to withdraw His discipline from him. Davidโ€™s enemies were a continual thorn in his side. Davidโ€™s soul was greatly troubled, and he cried so much he soaked his bed with tears. In the last 3 verses of the psalm, David expresses his confidence that God will help him and put his enemies to shame.

[The Meaning of Psalm 7]
In Psalm 7, David was once against being pursued by enemies. He invited Godโ€™s judgement on himself and those oppressing him. He believed his motives were pure and that God would vindicate him against his corrupt adversaries. David wrote, โ€œMy shield is with God, who saves the upright in heartโ€ (7:10).

๐Ÿ™ [COPIED]

A Prayer from Psalm 6
Heavenly Father, thank You for the book of Psalms which provides such encouragement and hope when we find ourselves immersed in sorrow and pain, or being mocked and abused by those who despise us. Help me to submit to You, resist the devil, and maintain my hope in Christ. I know that the time is fast approaching when You will right all wrongs and judge the world in righteousness. Search my heart, I pray, and show me if there is any sin that needs to be confessed. Thank You that I have the sufficient strength to come through every circumstance of life victoriously, when I keep my eyes on Jesus and maintain my faith in His unchanging Word. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

A Prayer from Psalm 7
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example that David set when he was pursued by his enemies, falsely accused, and persecuted for righteousness' sake. Thank You that my hope is in You. Thank You for Your promise to vindicate all Your people who are unjustly accused, or have been hotly pursued by the enemy of our soul. Give me a heart that trusts You, no matter what difficulties or dangers may cross my path. I pray that, like David, my hope will be built on nothing less than the Lord Jesus Christ and His perfect righteousness. Thank You that my salvation does not depend on what I have done, but on Who Christ is and what He has done on my account. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
