This Sunday is Easter Sunday and we will be celebrating the greatest news of all time! Pastor Mitch will preach, we will have a baptism, baby dedications, new members joining, and we’ll be hearing from Josue Rodrigez before taking up a special offering for Shelter Skate Church.

One way you can serve this Easter is simply by sitting towards the front to make room for all of our visitors. Please help us be hospitable to all of our guests!

>>> Easter Kids Ministry Info:

First off, this Sunday will look a little different because it is the first Sunday of the month and we have officially moved our Preschool ages and up to Roger’s House on Sunday mornings! With that being said, here is a breakdown of where each age group will be!

Nursery (0-3): They will remain in their normal classroom.

Preschool (3-5): They will be checked in and have a special Easter lesson in Roger’s House.

Griggs Kids (6 and up): They will be upstairs in the worship service with their parents. Make sure to grab an activity booklet at the welcome table!

Second, we will be having our Easter special this Sunday at the END of the service. Here is what that will look like for each age group!

Nursery (0-3): They will remain in their normal classroom.

Preschool (3-5): They will be coming into the sanctuary during the 4th worship song with Miss Julia and Miss Mary and taking a seat at the reserved pew until it is time to go up for our special.

Griggs Kids (6 and up): They will be sitting with their parents and after baby dedication and memberships, Mr. Carter will call them all up to the stage to join the worship team in our song “Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed.”

If you have any questions, please reach out to Julia Henderson!

Our Palm Sunday Party was an incredible time of worship and fun for the Poe Mill Neighborhood. So many of you came out to be part of your community and for that we are most grateful. Also, special thanks to all who served food, watched kids on inflatables, and hid easter eggs!

This year, our Easter offering is going to Shelter Skate Church They’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry based in our neighborhood, whose mission is to be a community within action sports where outsiders are welcomed and fed both physically and spiritually.

Every Sunday afternoon from 3–5 PM, they gather at the Poe Mill DIY Skatepark— a grassroots, community-built skatepark on the historic Poe Mill site — to skate, share a free meal, and hold a Bible study together. Their vision, rooted in Luke 14:23, is to go where skaters already are rather than expecting them to walk through traditional church doors.

Led by Josue and Jen Rodriguez, Shelter Skate Church officially began meeting weekly in 2022 and became a registered nonprofit in 2023. Beyond their regular Sunday gatherings — where they’ve served upward of 40 meals in a single session while studying books like Galatians — they also host skate jams, cookouts, and park cleanup days in partnership with other local churches.

Everything they do is aimed at discipling within a family culture modeled after Jesus’ ministry, especially for those who might feel like outsiders elsewhere.

This Sunday, March 29th, we will have our Palm Sunday Block Party in Ministry Park (27 2nd Ave in the Poe Mill Neighborhood) at 4 p.m. We’ll start with some worship at 4 p.m. because Jesus is king! Then hang out and enjoy free food, inflatables, and an Easter Egg hunt! You are invited!

We’ll have our Good Friday Communion Service on April 3rd at 7 p.m. This is a time for scripture reading, singing, and taking the Lord’s supper.

April 5th is Easter Sunday! We will celebrate the greatest news of all time. We will have a time for baby dedications, baptisms, and new members joining!

Additionally, on Easter Sunday we will be taking up a special offering for Shelter Skate Church as they minister to skateboarders in our very own neighborhood at Poe Mill Skatepark. Come ready to give!

We DO have groups tonight! Just watch out for the alleyway…

Pastor Mitch here,

Just want you all to know we are on for groups tonight at 7 p.m. at the building. But please watch out for the alley between the main building and the storefront as there is still some ice on the ground there!

We want everyone to avoid driving in or out of the alley.

We’re also going to move Julia Starnes group to Roger’s House and Loyd’s group to the front of the sanctuary so that no one as to walk over to the storefront and try to get across the ice.

We’ll be studying God’s covenant with Abraham from Genesis 15! It will be good to see everyone after being cooped up from the snow storm!

Pastor Mitch here,

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, our elders and deacons have all agreed to cancel the service this Sunday. So stay home!

It’s always hard for me to cancel because I love you all so much and it feels like we’re canceling church. But each time, I’m reminded we’re just canceling a worship service. Nothing can cancel the church.

We ARE the church through the weekend so please, text people and encourage them, call someone in your Griggs Group and see if they need anything. Pray for the poor and needy who are most affected by storms like this. Give what you can to whom you can in Jesus’ name. And, definitely, sabbath in Christ.

You can catch up on our Habakkuk series on our podcast (https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/griggschurch/) over the weekend, which you can find by searching “Griggs Church Sermons” anywhere you get podcasts.

THE BIBLE TELLS ONE STORY

The Bible is written in such a way to tell one, big, grand, overarching story and that is the story of God rescuing and restoring his sinful people through his Son Jesus.

Jesus himself is the one who taught us this. After his resurrection, Jesus meets up with some of his disciples who are walking away from Jerusalem, heading back home, and confused about the crucifixion of their Leader. They don’t really get that the climax of the story had come at Golgotha and the opening of the Garden Tomb. So Jesus fills them in…

Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. - Luke 24:25 ESV

Yes, there are hundreds of mini-stories but they’re like pieces of a puzzle that ultimately serve us when they’re put together in such a way that reveals the big picture.

If we don’t have a firm grasp on the big picture and the grand story, most of the little pieces of the puzzle will make no sense to us and our daily devotions will be filled with confusion rather than filled with good news.
