The average person experiences 200 negative thoughts each day, such as self-hate, envy, and self-doubt; for someone with depression, that number can be much higher, as in 600-1000! Because the brain seeks efficiency, it tends to repeat familiar thought patterns. If negative thinking has become a habit, the way to reduce it is to rewire those patterns by reframing and changing the message.
Repeating positive affirmations can help rewire your brain. That is true to a degree. But the issue is not the practice itself; it is the foundation behind it. Most affirmations begin with “I am...” and end with something we wish were true, which is like building a house on clouds.
Christian affirmations must be grounded in something unchanging: God’s truth about you. When you speak what is already true, you are not trying to create reality; you are reminding your heart of what has always been true. For the next thirty days you can get a new affirmation here, whether you are trying to retrain how you think or just want to be encouraged – come back each day and spend just 5 minutes breathing in gods word and breathing out Gods truth about YOU. See you soon!
