Striving to exemplify the Biblical teaching, "Self Second." (Philippians 2:3), while living in a world that teaches "Self First." can be a challenging dichotomy for Christians.
Self-care is not selfish when understood and lived in a Biblical context. God rested (Genesis 2:2). Jesus practiced self-care (Matthew 14:23, John 6:15); so did Paul and the other apostles (Mark 6:30-32, Ephesians 5:29). It should be no surprise that God created and calls us to do the same (Psalm 37:7; 46:10; 127:2, Exodus 20:8-11; 33:14, Matthew 11:28-30, Mark 2:27; 6:31).
You cannot live the life God created and called you to live while allowing yourself to become spiritually, emotionally, and physically depleted. Take a break from the busyness of life. Take time to pray and read your Bible. Care for your body, the "Temple of the Holy Spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:19), with nutrition and exercise. Take time to be still, rest, and replenish and restore. When you take time to refill your cup, you are better able to refill others'.
Praying for and wishing you a relaxing, restful, restorative weekend. God bless.
