A Tribute to Her Grace, The Very Reverend Mattie Ann Williford Jackson
Honoring a Woman of Grace, Faith, Strength, and Legacy
There are some lives that cannot be adequately measured by the number of years a person walked upon this earth. Their lives are measured by the people they touched, the faith they demonstrated, the wisdom they imparted, and the legacy they left behind.
Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Her Grace, The Very Reverend Mattie Ann Williford Jackson—a woman whose name continues to carry meaning, reverence, and love.
On September 8, 2017, family, friends, clergy, and the community gathered at Generostee Baptist Church in Starr, South Carolina, to celebrate her life. The public obituary identifies her as Overseer Mattie Ann Jackson, while the original service program honors her as The Very Reverend Mattie Ann Williford Jackson.
But titles alone cannot tell the story of a life.
She was a woman of faith.
She was a woman of strength.
She was a woman of dignity.
She was a woman of family.
She was a woman of legacy.
Her journey was intertwined with the life and ministry of her late husband, Apostle Jimmie Jackson Sr. Following his passing in 2010, she remained a part of the legacy they built together. His obituary records that they shared a family that included their children and grandchildren, and that he served as Organizer and Chief Apostle of Gethsemane Faith Deliverance Temple, Kingdom Disciples World Outreach, and iCrave Church.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of Mother Mattie’s legacy is the fact that her influence did not end when her earthly journey ended.
Her life continued through her children.
Her wisdom continued through those she taught.
Her prayers continued through those she covered.
Her example continued through those who watched her walk with God.
And her legacy continues through every life she helped shape.
The years may pass, but legacy does not expire.
There are mothers whose presence makes a family feel anchored. There are women whose words become wisdom long after they have spoken them. There are spiritual mothers whose prayers become covering for generations they may never live to see.
Mother Mattie was one of those women.
The photograph we see today reminds us of more than a beautiful woman dressed with elegance and distinction. It reminds us of a woman who carried herself with presence. A woman who understood that there is something powerful about knowing who you are, whose you are, and what God has entrusted to you.
Her life reminds us that faith can outlive a person.
Her voice may no longer be heard in the natural, but the testimony of her life still speaks.
Her hands may no longer serve, but what they accomplished remains.
Her feet may no longer walk among us, but the path she traveled has become part of the road for those who came after her.
And her earthly chapter may have closed, but heaven received a woman who had completed her assignment.
A Legacy Worth Remembering
As we honor Her Grace, The Very Reverend Mattie Ann Williford Jackson, we do not simply remember how she died.
We remember how she lived.
We remember the love.
We remember the strength.
We remember the faith.
We remember the family.
We remember the ministry.
We remember the moments.
We remember the laughter.
We remember the lessons.
And most importantly, we remember the legacy.

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
— Proverbs 31:28
That is the kind of woman we honor today.
A woman whose life deserves more than a moment of remembrance.

A woman whose name deserves to be spoken with honor.
