Day 155 of “Blessings” (bless, blessed, blessings)

Proverbs 10:6-7 New International Version

6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
7 The name of the righteous is used in blessings,
but the name of the wicked will rot.

Proverbs 10:6: This verse emphasizes that righteousness leads to blessings, both spiritual and earthly, while the wicked may outwardly appear harmless but harbor violence and deceit. The "blessings" can include spiritual blessings, positive reputation, and a fulfilling life. The "mouth of the wicked" speaks of their deceitful nature, where they may hide their violent intentions or justify their actions.

Proverbs 10:7: This verse highlights the lasting impact of one's character. The righteous are remembered favorably for their good deeds and integrity, while the wicked's names and reputations are forgotten or tarnished, their actions leaving a negative legacy.

Psalm 145:10 New King James Version

"All Your works shall praise You, O Lord,
And Your saints shall bless You."

All thy works will praise thee:
This speaks to the inherent glorification of God through the natural world. The creation, in its beauty, order, and complexity, testifies to God's power and goodness, prompting praise.

And your saints shall bless thee:
This refers to God's covenant people, those who have chosen to follow Him and reflect His character. They bless God through their words, actions, and lives, acknowledging His blessings and expressing gratitude.

The combination of both speaks to a complete and universal acknowledgment of God's greatness:
Creation, through its inherent beauty and order, and God's people, through their faithful devotion, join in praising and blessing Him.

Day 149 of “Blessings” (bless, blessed, blessings)

Psalm 128 New International Version

1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in obedience to him.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
around your table.
4 Yes, this will be the blessing
for the man who fears the Lord.
5 May the Lord bless you from Zion;
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
6 May you live to see your children’s children—
peace be on Israel.

Key Themes:
Fear of the Lord:
The psalm highlights the importance of reverence and obedience to God as the foundation for experiencing His blessings.
Prosperity and Happiness:
Those who fear the Lord are promised to enjoy the fruit of their labor, experiencing both blessings and prosperity.
Family Blessings:
The imagery of a fruitful vine and olive shoots symbolizes a thriving family life, with blessings in relationships and the home.
Generational Blessings:
The psalm suggests that the blessings of a God-fearing life extend to future generations, with the promise of seeing their children and grandchildren.

Day 148 of “Blessings” (bless, blessed, blessings)

Psalm 124:6-8 King James Version

6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Verse 6 acknowledges that the people were vulnerable and could have been consumed by their enemies, but the Lord prevented it.
Verse 7 uses imagery of escaping a trap to illustrate the
deliverance from danger. The people were trapped but have now been freed.
Verse 8 emphasizes that the source of their help and deliverance is the Lord, the Creator of all things.

Day 147 of “Blessings” (bless, blessed, blessings)

Psalm 119:11-13 New King James Version

11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.

Verse 11 highlights the practice of internalizing God's Word, storing it within one's heart, not just as external knowledge, but as a guide for life. This "hiding" or storing involves meditation, memorization, and allowing the Word to influence one's thoughts and feelings. The psalmist's goal is to avoid sin, understanding that the Word of God provides a moral compass and a powerful antidote against temptation.

Verse 12 expresses praise to God and a request for continued instruction in His decrees. The psalmist recognizes that God's laws are a source of guidance and wisdom.

Verse 13 demonstrates a commitment to sharing God's Word with others. The psalmist expresses a desire to recount all of God's laws with his lips, highlighting the importance of verbalizing and communicating God's truth.

Day 146 of “Blessings” (bless, blessed, blessings)

Psalm 119:1-3 New International Version

1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—
3 they do no wrong
but follow his ways.

If we follow what the Psalmist says in these first 3 verses, we see that those who practice and know the Scriptures are blessed. In order for us to be blameless, we need to walk in the law of the Lord. If we seek Him with our whole heart and keep His testimonies, we will be blessed.
