LGBTQ History: Pride didn't begin with Stonewall.

Most people think that Pride began with the Stonewall Riots, but the first annual observances in support of LGBTQ+ rights actually took place in Philadelphia. The Reminder Day Pickets in Philadelphia were held each July 4 from 1965 to 1969 at Independence Hall. After Stonewall, organizers of the Reminder Day Pickets suggested commemorating that date in the last weekend of June.

Join Pastor Brian on Monday evenings starting June 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for LGBTQ Theologies, a four-week exploration of how LGBTQ people have engaged, challenged, and enriched the Christian tradition. Together we’ll examine how q***r Christians have reclaimed biblical stories, questioned assumptions about gender and sexuality, developed new ways of reading Scripture, and reimagined faith through the lens of lived experience. Whether you’re new to these conversations or have been exploring them for years, this discussion-based series offers a welcoming space for learning, reflection, and community.

What if peace isn’t something we achieve when everything is right in our lives but something we return to?

At our Bible study last Sunday, we looked at Psalm 23. In that Psalm, God does not take away the dangers. Instead, God is with us along the journey. That’s why Wendell Berry’s poem "The Peace of Wild Things" resonates so deeply. When anxiety rises and the future feels uncertain, Berry doesn’t solve it. He steps into the presence of something larger. Something alive. Something unfolding.

“I come into the peace of wild things…”

Maybe becoming isn’t about figuring everything out.
Maybe it’s about learning where to go when we feel lost.
Maybe it’s about trusting that even in change, we are held.

🌿 Where do you go when the weight of the world feels too heavy?

At our Bible study this past Sunday, we examined the 23rd Psalm, but we started with a look at other sacred texts. The Sufi mystic Rumi's poem "The Guest House," reveals how every emotion arrives like a visitor, uninvited yet real. Some bring light. Others disrupt and unsettle.

This piece holds them all without judgment, allowing each to enter, move, and change the space. What feels overwhelming may also be making room. What feels unwelcome may still carry meaning.

Nothing stays forever. But everything has something to say.

Good morning, everyone!

This is a friendly reminder to please share the post about Saturday’s Book festival across your socials if you haven’t done so already. Trinity’s social media page will get the word out somewhat, and I’ve post on many public groups, but the grassroots efforts from your organizations make our community move, as you know. We appreciate the help!

You can feel free to share directly from Trinity’s page: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1384505313720659&set=a.475607777943755
