Congratulations to our friend and genealogist Sunny Jane Morton on her latest publication "Searching for Sisters: A Guide to Researching Catholics Nuns in the United States." Sunny spent time in the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill Archives in June of 2023 to investigate women religious archives. We were her first visit and she has committed nearly three years in this sub-field of genealogical research.

Make sure to order her book and share with friends!

Who were the Catholic nuns on your family tree or in your community? Most families know precious little about the women on their family trees who joined religious life. Historians, too, have largely overlooked the estimated 350,000 Catholic women religious (nuns and sisters) in the United States bet...

Once the original entrance to Seton Hill University's Administration Building, this stained-glass doorway welcomed generations of students into a space where faith and learning meet.

On either side are the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, symbols of sacrificial love, mercy, and devotion. Between them, the flowing vines and flowers represent spiritual growth, while the brilliant light shining through the panels reflects Christ as the light of the world. Look closely, and you’ll notice subtle Eucharistic imagery—circular medallions with radiating rays that symbolize Christ’s presence in the sacrament, reminding all who entered of the central mystery of Catholic worship.

This doorway was more than an entry; it was a threshold of transformation, guiding students from the ordinary world into a place of faith, community, and formation.
During Lent, these symbols speak with particular power: the hearts of Jesus and Mary invite reflection on love that suffers and endures, the vines encourage growth through sacrifice, and the Eucharistic light calls us to encounter Christ anew in our lives.

As generations once passed through these doors, may Lent inspire each of us to step forward with renewed purpose, guided by love, mercy, and the light of Christ.

"Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton Is A Saint!"

These words, spoken by Pope Paul VI, rang out through St. Peter's Square on September 14, 1975. As we approach the 50th anniversary of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's declaration of sainthood, check out this digital exhibit about the decades-long process.

Shane Butler, a Seton Hill University Class of 2025 Religious Studies major, conducted research in the archives to create this digital display.
