Westover Church's Families in Action provides monthly opportunities for families to serve together on second Saturdays in the Greensboro, NC area.

Hello Families In Action!

For the past several years we have had the opportunity to bless those in our church body who are widowed by remembering them on Valentine's Day.

We are working on organizing deliveries for this year and would love for you to help!

As we continue to look for ways to help families in underserved communities, many refugee families in Greensboro are in need of food. We will be collecting rice and potatoes to prepare food packs to distribute to 21 families who have been identified. Please drop off in either the YELLOW or PURPLE boxes at the Westover Church atrium entrance on Tues - Thurs, May 19-21, 9am-4pm.

Brothers and Sisters of Westover:

We at Westover Church will be gathering for prayer for the duration of the stay-at-home order and invite you to join us.

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:45 PM we will be praying by phone using FreeConferenceCall. Dial 351-999-3093 to join us. We will pray about 30-45 minutes, finishing up no later than 8:30.

Call in even if you don't want to pray yourself. Please forward to anyone who would be interested.

Good morning,

Westover is partnering with Hope Academy to provide weekend meals for their families in need.

Each bag should contain (family of 4):

Breakfast:

Pastry (think pop tarts, pre-made muffins etc…)
Family-size box of cereal
2 cans of canned fruit

Lunch:

2 family-size cans of soup
Saltines or oyster crackers

Dinner:

1 box of rice
2 cans of tomatoes (any kind)
2 cans of black beans

Sweet Treat:

Packaged cookies or treat

Bags should be dropped off at Westover Church (North Atrium Entrance) on Thursday, April 23 between 3-4pm. If you need to make other drop off arrangements, or have any questions, please email me at [email protected] BEFORE April 23.

MARCH 13 UPDATE:

Hello!

We wanted to let you know that we do need to cancel the service project scheduled for tomorrow, 3/14, at Out of the Garden Project.

Out of the Garden will be in touch with us about how we may be able to help them reach out to our community especially over the next couple of weeks possibly on a smaller scale.

During this time, lets ask God how He can use each of us to be a light in our homes, neighborhoods...wherever He may place us. We would love to hear of any ideas your family may have for reaching out so we can share these ideas with others too...so please pray, brainstorm and email us back with those ideas!!

Local Ministries of Westover is actively seeking ways that we can wisely and safely be a light during this time in our community and around the worlds...we will be in touch as opportunities arise!

Did you know that Out of the Garden Project began in Westover Church's Neighborhood school...Moorehead Elementary?

While Don and Kristy Milhoin's daughters attended Moorehead Elementary, they met students and their families who did not have enough to eat especially on the weekends. Their family began packing bags of food for a few families each weekend....this grew into what now is Out of the Garden Project!

Last month we gathered bags of donated food (partnering with A Simple Gesture) from neighborhoods throughout Greensboro. We brought those bags of food to Out of the Garden project to be packed and distributed.

This month we get to serve Jesus by packing donated food for those in Guilford County needing food! This is a great project for ALL ages...even little ones can carry small boxes of mac n cheese to be packed....So come out and join us!

YAY GOD!!

Praise God for a great day serving Jesus in 10 different neighborhoods throughout Greensboro! On February 8th, Faithworks and Families in Action took to the streets gathering food donations for A Simple Gesture! It was a beautiful day and loads of green bags were collected and brought to Out of the Garden Project Warehouse for packaging and distribution to Guilford County homes!

PRAY!!

Please pray for those participating in Adopt A Valentine this week! We are SO grateful for the MANY people from Families In Action, Women's Ministry and Westover Kids who are reaching out to encourage widows/widowers and those in our church community who are no longer able to attend church!

May God use this to help each of us understand Christ's love in a greater way!

Friends of Westover! Have you seen those green cloth grocery bags piled high by the local ministries wall every couple of months at church? Westover has had the joy of partnering with A Simple Gesture, a fantastic organization that has made mobilizing food donations for local food pantries and county schools simple and streamlined!

On February 8th, Families In Action and Faithworks will be taking part in A Simple Gesture's Neighborhood pick up. It's a great way to serve Jesus in Greensboro!

This has been a favorite with many families. Some kids have declared that delivering food to those in need is better than trick or treating!

If you sign up to participate, you will be emailed a list of homes and contact information a week before the pickup date and are asked to call or email the homes to remind them you are coming.

Volunteers will meet at Westover on Saturday, February 8th at 8:45 to get their bags, and head out at 9:00. The concept is simple, when you pick up a bag, leave an empty bag (if they have 2 or 3 bags, leave the same number of empty). Donors leave their bags on their porch.

Your route will end at Out of the Garden Project, our partner pantry for February. When you drop off you food, come in and let us know you arrived. A team will unload your car and sort the food while you check-in. 100% of the food collected will be given to children in Guilford County.

We will have the two Westover buses running to cover a couple of routes especially for families with little children.

Happy New Year!

Join us for the "Blessing Bag Scavenger Hunt!"

When: This Saturday 1/11/2020, 9:00-12:00 (most likely done by 11:00)

Where: Westover Church (enter under at the North Entrance by canopy)

Why? Because we want to share Jesus' love with those struggling on the street corners of Guilford County!

Who? You and your friends!

We'll be solving clues taking us to different locations in the church! At each location you will have the chance to collect items for your blessing bags and take a moment to pray for specific prayer requests from around Greensboro!

We will assemble the blessing bags together in the gym and you can take some home to give out to the people God brings across your path on the street corners around Guilford County!

YAY GOD!! AND THANK YOU!!!

A huge thank you to the Wilkerson family with Project Outreach and the many hands big and small who came out to pack 13,000 meals for Greensboro's Blessed Hope Food Pantry!

Special Christmas cards were also created that will be given out to friends at Meals at Grace and Redeeming Life Christmas Breakfast this holiday season!

As we served together community was built, our eyes were opened to the great need in our city and we were pointed to Christ who is the ultimate filler of our desperate hearts.

We are praying for you today as you live out the gospel of Christ in your home, your workplace, your school, your neighborhood.
