Talking about the "E" Word... When you hear the words "Evangelism" and "Evangelical" what comes to mind? Culturally speaking, let's acknowledge there's a LOT of baggage associated with those words. They come from the biblical Greek word "euangelion" that literally means good news, good message, and good messenger. (Note the word "angel" in the word.) So, if we are part of the ELCA (yes, E for Evangelical), what does it mean to be messengers of good news? And how can we share our good news without adding to the hurtful or negative baggage?

Check out Sunday's reading (Matthew 28:16-20) and let's explore further on Sunday at 10 am for Combined Worship in the Contemporary Worship space, followed by a picnic lunch together!

"Have you ever tried to watch the wind? Good luck!" — That's how one article by Brian Maas started as I was preparing for my message this coming Pentecost Sunday. In a familiar reading (Acts 2:1-21), images of both wind and fire are used to describe the presence of God's Spirit among the post-Easter followers of Jesus. That line in the article reminded me of a sermon from Pastor Kristina Johnson here at FLC during the late 1990's, who said, "You can't see the Holy Spirit. But you can see what the Holy Spirit does." Question: How might the images of wind and fire help you better see, know and understand God in your life? Let's gather with the Spirit this Sunday and explore together.

At First Lutheran Church, we are called to be advocates for our neighbors! We believe in a world where all are fed, and everyone gets their daily bread.

On Sunday, May 10, in partnership with nonpartisan advocacy organization Bread for the World, we wrote letters to our congress members in D.C., sharing our faith and our hope that no one goes hungry.

The God's Work Our Hands packing palooza put together about 400 bags of snacks for hungry youth and adults in our community (supporting worthy local organizations, Backpack Beginnings and the Tiny House Hope Center). Meanwhile, many of our youth got a little messy as they put together ready-to-go casseroles for dinner at Greensboro Urban Ministry.

Faith lives in our bodies, and we express it in our actions. We trust God is at work building a better world, and occasionally we get a glimpse!

On Sunday, May 10, First Lutheran Church helped our neighbors in need with a packing Palooza and prepared casseroles as part of God's work. Our hands. day.

Rev. Jason Blanton from Bread for the World joined us as we wrote letters to members of Congress advocating for programs to end hunger.
