Most Americans are familiar with at least some events in the history of non-violent direct action. The Greensboro Four and ultimate desegregation of the Woolworth’s lunch counter are often cited as a landmark success in non-violent action.
But knowing how to organize and take action in a non-violent way is a bit more complex.
A three-part training series called “Claiming Your Power with Strategic Nonviolence" is open to all who desire more knowledge about non-violent tactics and strategies.
The series is being led by Margaret Rowlett, an activist trained in nonviolent direct action strategies. The first session, on how we relate to power and how to challenge it, was June 2.
On Tuesday (June 9), Margaret will lead a session on “Creating an Effective Campaign.” It starts at 6:30 p.m. at New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Road, Greensboro. The session will last until 8 p.m.
The third, “Lessons in Resisting Authoritarianism,” is set for June 23. Each session stands alone; it’s not necessary to have attended a prior session.
Margaret has provided training in nonviolent direct action for Indivisible Guilford, Triad Rising, dissent, ACT, and Quaker House.
