Feed the Hunger

Feed the Hunger Feed the Hunger helps people to engage the hunger within them to make a difference for eternity.

We help people satisfy this craving by giving them an opportunity to feed the spiritual, emotional, and physical hunger in needy children.

One of the first pictures of prayer in the Bible comes in Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve disobey God, experience shame, and hide from him. But God does not wait for them to find their way back. He comes looking for them, calling to Adam, “Where are you?” (verse 9). God knew where they were and what they had done. But the question reveals something beautiful about the heart of God: he pursues his people in their brokenness, shame, and need. Prayer begins with God because relationship begins with God. He created humanity in his image to reflect him, represent him, and to be in a relationship with him.

That same invitation continues throughout Scripture. In Philippians 4, God’s people are told to let their requests be made known to him. Not because he is unaware of their needs, but because he is a loving Father who desires a relationship with his children. He knows what we need, and he welcomes us to him in prayer. So as you bring this week’s requests to the Lord, you are not praying to a distant or reluctant God but to the God who first comes near. Thank you for praying with us for our partners as they nourish growth among vulnerable children and communities in the name of Jesus.

Today is International Day for the Unreached, when believers around the world pause to pray for “unreached” people groups—those communities where there may be no local church, no Scripture in their language, and little to no access to the gospel. It is fitting that this day highlighting the unreached falls on Pentecost Sunday, when we remember the Holy Spirit empowering the church to bear witness to Christ across languages, cultures, and peoples.

At Feed the Hunger, we are burdened for places where spiritual and physical hunger overlap, especially in communities that are both vulnerable and unreached. Many of our partners are serving in or near these kinds of communities in places like Mali, Ghana, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Cambodia. As you pray this week, ask God to open doors for the gospel, strengthen local believers and ministry partners, provide Scripture in every language, and bring many to faith in Jesus Christ.

In Myanmar, ongoing unrest and economic hardship have left many families struggling to survive, but because of your generosity, children at Mercy Children’s Home are receiving nourishment, encouragement, and hope for the future. During a recent visit, our partners delivered food and educational materials while spending meaningful time with the children, reminding them they are deeply loved and not forgotten. Through your partnership, vulnerable children are experiencing the care of Christ and the support of believers around the world!

Jesus teaches us to pray about many things, but in Matthew 9, he gives one of the clearest and most explicit prayer requests in all the Gospels: “Ask the Lord of the harvest . . . to send out workers into his harvest field” (verse 38). The need is great, the harvest is plentiful, and the workers are few. Jesus does send out workers, but he first calls his disciples to pray. In other words, mission begins not with our activity, but with God’s compassion and God’s sending. We are invited to join the Lord of the harvest in his mission through prayer.

As we pray this week, we are not simply asking God to bless our plans; we are joining him on his mission. We are asking him to send laborers, strengthen partners, provide for hungry children and families, raise up faithful leaders, and make Jesus known among the nations. So, let’s pray with confidence and urgency to the Lord of the harvest. May he send workers into his harvest, and, as with those first disciples, may we also be ready to become part of the answer to the prayers we pray.

God’s provision often shows up in unexpected ways. In Ghana, what began as a delayed food delivery turned into a divine connection for a woman caring for children with disabilities who had been praying for provision. Through Feed the Hunger meals and faithful local partners, God answered those prayers and revealed His care for vulnerable children in need. Stories like this remind us that every box of food carries more than nourishment. It carries hope, compassion, and the faithfulness of God!

On Mother’s Day, we pause to honor the women around the world who go to great lengths to provide for those under their care. Many of the women our partners minister to and encourage are especially vulnerable because of their economic, social, and cultural situations. One such mother persevering in the face of great challenges is Rashida. Our partner in Ghana told us about the love she has for her children and how she is trying to give them the best future she can. Read Rashida's story here:

In the remote villages of midwestern Nepal, Pastor G faithfully serves as a church planter and trainer, traveling difficult terrain to encourage believers, equip church planter families, and distribute Nepali Bibles in rural communities. For years, a motorcycle provided through Feed the Hunger helped carry the gospel to places that are hard to reach, but after countless miles and repairs, it is no longer usable. Now traveling mainly by bicycle, Pastor G continues his mission with humility and perseverance, trusting God to make a way for the gospel to keep moving forward!

The Psalms were the prayerbook of Jesus and the Jewish people. We see them quoted by Jesus throughout his ministry, even on the cross, where he cried out from Psalm 22—a psalm of lament. In fact, there are more lament psalms than any other kind of psalm in the Bible. Biblical lament reminds us that when we pray, we do not have to pretend everything is okay or hide our eyes from the sin and brokenness in ourselves and in the world. Psalms of lament teach us to bring our grief, confusion, and need honestly before the Lord, while also trusting that he will meet us and those in need with his saving deliverance. As we pray this week, let’s lament the brokenness in the world and the great needs of the vulnerable, but let’s also praise God and trust in his deliverance.
