Psalm 13:6 (NASB95)
“I will sing to the LORD, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”
Psalm 13 is one of David’s shortest psalms, yet it captures an incredible journey—from despair to confidence, from questioning to worship. Verse 6 is the destination of that journey. There is no indication that David’s circumstances had improved by verse 6. His heart changed before his situation did.
“I will sing…”
Notice David doesn’t say, “I feel like singing.”
He says:
“I will sing.”
This is a decision. Worship is centered on God’s character, not our comfort.
“Because”
David has a reason for singing.
Even when emotions fluctuate, we can praise God because His character remains constant:
* He is faithful.
* He is loving.
* He keeps His promises.
* He never changes.
“He has dealt bountifully with me.”
The phrase means:
* God has been generous.
* God has shown abundant goodness.
* God has treated me graciously.
At first glance this seems surprising because David began the psalm feeling forgotten. So what changed?David remembered God’s past faithfulness.He shifted his focus from:
what God hadn’t done yet, toeverything God had already done. Memory fuels faith. When we remember God’s past provision, it strengthens our confidence that He will remain faithful in the future.
Psalm 13 teaches us this progression:
Honesty → Prayer → Trust → Praise
God never rebukes David for asking hard questions. Instead, David brings every emotion before God, and those honest prayers eventually become songs of worship
You may be in a Psalm 13 season. Perhaps you’re waiting for: healing, restoration, financial provision, reconciliation, direction, or an answered prayer. Psalm 13 reminds us that waiting doesn’t mean God has abandoned us. Faith often says….
“I don’t see the answer yet, but I know the One who holds my future.” Like David, we can choose to worship before we see the outcome.

Lord, I choose to sing because You have always been faithful, and I trust that You will continue to deal bountifully with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
