πŸ“– This Sunday's sermon started with an honest confession: "You all get a little bit of an unscripted sermon this morning, because it's been one of those weeks."
Sometimes the most sacred moments begin exactly there.

From Solomon's temple dedication in 1 Kings 8, we asked a question that still rings true today: Can we contain God in our beautiful spaces β€” or does God always spill over the edges?

Join us as we journey through Kingdoms Come, our summer series in 1 Kings.

Come to the table just as you are, with all your joys and burdens. Dwell with God in this sacred space, and carry that divine connection into every corner of the world where God already resides.

🌱 "Sow Your Seeds!" 🌱

Last night, our children filled Guilford Park with music, color, and pure joy in their Spring Musical β€” and this community showed up to celebrate them. Every song, every line, every bow was a reminder of why we do what we do together.

We are so proud of these incredible kids β€” and so grateful for Megan Cowgill, Dr. Bill, the parents, and volunteers who helped this performance grow from a seed into something beautiful.

To every child who sang, acted, and shone last night: well done, good and faithful servant. 🎀🌿

Even when familiar sermons feel repetitive, the reminder of God's constant presence is crucial. God dwells not just in this sacred space, but in hospital rooms, veterinary offices, during difficult conversations about finances, and at moments of celebration. This understanding is what makes communion so profoundly special.

David names Solomon king, but not everyone is happy. Adonijah's bid for power ends tragically when he makes a fatal mistake. This is political succession, Game of Thrones style.

Happy World Environment Day! 🌎🌿

As an Earth Care Congregation, Guilford Park Presbyterian Church is committed to caring for God’s good creation and working for environmental justice.

We believe creation care is neighbor care β€” because the health of our planet is deeply connected to the health, safety, and flourishing of our communities, especially those most vulnerable to environmental harm.

Today, we give thanks for the beauty of the earth and recommit ourselves to living gently, justly, and faithfully upon it.

Happy National Donut Day! 🍩✨

Today we give thanks for the holy gifts of coffee, sprinkles, frosting, and that blessed phrase: β€œThere’s one more in the box.”

Whether you’re a glazed purist, a chocolate-covered disciple, or a jelly-filled believer, may your day be sweet, your coffee be strong, and your joy be shared.

Because sometimes grace looks like a circle of fried dough.

Here's the part of Solomon's story we often skip: even after God grants him wisdom, his very next instinct β€” in the famous tale of the two mothers β€” is to reach for a sword.

Two things can be true at once. He was wise. And he still reached for the blade first.

We live with more potential at our fingertips than any generation before us β€” including an AI boom reshaping the world in just a few short years. Like every tool, it can be used for tremendous good or real harm. Which is exactly why we need Solomon's prayer now more than ever.

Wisdom is a precious gift β€” and like a garden, it has to be tended. May we never take it for granted. 🌱

We stand at the cusp of unlimited potential, unlike any generation before. The AI boom has reshaped our world, presenting both incredible opportunities for good and the potential for harm. Now more than ever, we need listening hearts attuned to humanity's capacity, ready to cut through noise and find wisdom.

Our world tends to assume that power means making yourself heard β€” imposing your will, being the one everyone else has to listen to.

Solomon flips that script. The strongest thing he could think to ask for was a listening heart.

Imagine if our leaders β€” on every side of the aisle β€” led that way. Imagine if we did: in our families, our workplaces, our schools, our church. Not louder. More attentive. Quick to hear before we're quick to speak.

In all the noise, may we find the quiet to hear the still, small voice of the Spirit. 🌿
