I once sat on a long flight across America next to a Calvinist who argued his circular logic that neither you or I can choose to get saved, serve and love God, but that instead God does it all and we have no choice in the matter. His grace is irresistible. This went on for the entire flight. For every "whosoever will" or other point that I offered from the scriptures, he had a mind-twist that says that no one can come to God unless God draws him. (I point out that God draws everyone), and around the circle it goes.
Until I finally asked him whether or not God has free will. He paused for a moment, pondering the implications of his answer, until he had to confess that yes, God does indeed have a free will. Then I asked him, Whose image are we created in? And he sat dumbfounded.
If we have no free will to chose Him, then nothing makes sense. God made us robots with no choice to obey or be drawn. How could a just God punish those who had no choice?
In the beginning God made Adam and Eve and placed them both in a garden with a snake and said "it is good" -- I read that to be "just right".
He created a universe where two scientists can look at the cosmos and one sees it declare the glory of God, while the other says in his heart (not his mind) that there is no God. Two thieves on a cross. Two roads before us.
