What I love about being in a church family is the community that we get to be a part of. We get to! I love seeing women connect with one another and then spend time together outside of the church for fellowship and community. It’s important. God created us to live in community together. The Acts 2 church met together, ate together, and lived life together.
Every year we go on vacation as a family to Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach. We rent a house and have the best week together. At night, there is something called the “Golf Cart Parade.” My grandkids love it. For the first couple of years, Rae and DJ would say, “Mimi, please come to the parade!” I would answer, “You guys go have fun; Mimi is going to stay here.” Well, I started to go last year, but this year I went five nights in a row. Five nights! There is something about community and greeting others daily. Devin, Lauren, and Lexi would drive one of the golf carts. We would form a line and pass gifts to each other for the kids, like bracelets, candy, and necklaces. The fun part is that everyone gives each other high-fives as we are driving by one another. I really was getting into the high-fives. It was all ages coming together, having the best time. Community! This year it was one of Callie’s favorite things. She would ask continually, “Is it time for the parade?” I realized I was missing community with them and others when I chose to stay at the house. There is nothing wrong with staying at the house, but I felt like God said. “Go and be in community.” This was important. Seeing my grandkids having the time of their life meeting new people and giving gifts was priceless. God reminded me of the church and how we get to live together in community.
Are you connected in community? Do you spend time with other women? Are you isolating yourself? Is there a woman that you know that needs to be invited to fellowship with you? Are you doing the inviting or just waiting to be invited? Is God leading you to join a local church? Is there a small group you need to join? Is there a conference you need to attend? Look for other women who need to know Jesus and need to be connected! You were made for community!
