VERSE
“And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ‘Abba, Father.’” Galatians 4:6 (NLT)

THOUGHT
What a tender thought. Paul was very deliberate in using “Abba Father.” This is a more affectionate term than simply saying “Father.” The real translation of “Abba Father” is “Daddy!” Imagine, God invites us to call Him our affectionate Father, “Daddy.” Can you say that? Have you thought of Him that way? Paul says that as God’s children, He has given us His Spirit and the job of the Spirit is to help us fall more and more in love with the Father until we can call Him “Daddy.” Will you let Him do that? Will you begin to meditate, to really stop and consider that He is your loving Father? Imagine His deep love for you. Imagine you coming into His presence, calling Him “Daddy”. Ask God to help you know this reality deep in your heart. After all, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to call you “Daddy”. I hear it in my head, but it isn’t quite in my heart. I invite You, Holy Spirit, to speak to my heart, to help me feel the Father’s love, to know the Father’s love. Prompt me, Holy Spirit, to call God, “Dear Father, Dear Daddy.”
AMEN

VERSE
“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.” Psalms 17:6-8 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Some things only God can do. That is why we need to come to Him. When we do, we need to put our faith in His ability to answer our prayer. In his book, “Living From The Heart”, Dr. James Wilder elaborates, “God is the only one who can ultimately save us, sanctify us and deliver us from evil. – When we let God do His work, things happen rather perfectly. But when we presumptuously take over His territory, things tend to crumble all so quickly.” Today, like David, may we pray to God because we know He will answer. If we do, He will show us “His unfailing love in wonderful ways.”

PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. You have shown me it in so many ways. Today, I bring you my needs and all my cares. I come to You because I know You will answer. You grace is amazing, Your love never ending, Your power all sufficient.
AMEN

VERSE
“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:6-7 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Expectations have a lot to do with outcomes. What is faith if it is not an expectation that God is going to do what He said He would do? What is hope if it is not an expectation of good things to come? What are you expecting from God? What are you expecting your life to be like? The answers to these questions make all the difference in the world. The Bible gives us many reasons to expect great things in our life. We have a great God with a great love for us who has a great plan for our life. This should influence what we expect today. We should go forth today expecting God’s favor on our life. We should expect God’s love to shine in our heart. We should expect that He will lovingly listen to our prayers and grant our requests according to His will. We should expect Him to act in love on our behalf. We should expect God to be compassionate and forgiving toward us. So let me ask you, “If you are a loved child of the King of Kings, what are you expecting today?”

PRAYER
Dear Father, I say I trust You, but often my expectations betray me. I don’t act as if I believe You really love me. I don’t act as if You are determined to bless me today. Forgive me, Lord. Please help me to live in the expectation of Your love and blessing in my life today and everyday.
AMEN

VERSE
“Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.” I Corinthians 3:1-2 (NIV)

THOUGHT
Paul was concerned about the maturity of the Corinth believers. Paul says that when we are new in Christ we should desire to be spiritually mature. We should be eating spiritual “solid” food but he found that they were still drinking milk. Now a baby needs milk. Likewise a new believer needs to get grounded in the faith learning the basic truths and practicing the basic spiritual disciplines. However, as time goes by, like a newborn child grows and needs a more comprehensive meal, so Christians should desire a deeper walk with God. Paul observed that the Corinth church was immature in their Christian walk. Their spiritual growth was stunted. Instead of feasting on solid spiritual food, Paul has to give them spiritual milk. It wasn’t that they weren’t maturing. They were growing intellectually and emotionally. They no doubt had acquired many skills and knowledge. But this is what Paul referred to as “worldly” wisdom. When it came to the things of Christ, they were still an infant. How about you? How is your spiritual maturity? Can you look over the last year and say, “I know I have grown in Christ this year?” Have you read the Bible, spent time in prayer, let God work with your personal habits. Has God made a difference in your emotional life? Do you see yourself more mature in your relationships? There is so much to know and so many areas in which to grow. Pray today that God will help you begin on a healthy spiritual diet so you will grow as a Christian.

PRAYER
Father, I need to grow in You. Help my desire become a reality. Help me study Your word and talk to You in prayer. Help me be honest with You and then listen to what You say. I desire more of You and Your word. Feed me I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

VERSE
“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19 (NIV)

THOUGHT
I have always loved poetry. I love words put together on a page with hidden meaning, a puzzle waiting to be solved, pregnant with truth and wisdom. My dad always loved “The Road Less Taken” by Robert Frost. Growing up, he would quote the ending. I have it memorized. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” How true that phrase is. We have choices. And there is no greater choice than the one you make regarding your heart. God desires us to follow Him and yet He will not force us. We have a choice. Which road will we take? The Psalmist warns against a hard heart. He writes, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Will we listen to bitterness, jealously, self pity and other negative emotions? Will we turn our back on God’s love or will we open our heart to hear what He has to say? Paul knew how serious our heart was so he prayed for the Ephesians. He prayed that their hearts would be enlightened toward the things of God. Do you seek God’s enlightenment? Do you ask Him for wisdom in order to understand the depths of His love for you? Do you ask Him to show you the purpose He has for your life? Do you ask Him to teach you about His great power He has for you to live by? You have a choice with your heart. Will you let God enlighten it with His love and power or will you let it harden?

PRAYER
Father, take my heart and breath Your life into it. I don’t want a hard heart. I want a heart that is enlightened by Your Holy Spirit. One that is led day by day, living by faith, trusting in Your love and power.
AMEN

VERSE
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)

THOUGHT
There is a Holy Place. Far beyond the vastness of the universe, before eternity ever started, beyond any form of comprehension, there is God. And this God allows all that He is, to become exposed to all that we are. We with our humanness, our finite, fickle, sinful selves are allowed to enter the Holy Place through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How marvelous, how wonderful, how unbelievable that we can “go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him.” Today, enter the Holy Place and commune with the Holy God, fully trusting that He has bid you to come.

PRAYER
Oh Holy Father, who am I that You would allow me to enter into Your Holy Place? Thanks be to You and Your Son Jesus Christ who died in my place that I might be made holy in Your sight. Thank You for bidding me to come and fellowship with You. I come, Dear Father, fully trusting in Your love and forgiveness.
AMEN

VERSE
“I cried out, ‘I am slipping!’ but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” Psalms 94:18-19 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Have you ever slipped? I have. It is a helpless feeling. Your legs fly up and your body comes down without warning. Once I slipped off a tree limb and landed many feet below on the ground. There were scratches down the side of my body from the many branches that I hit on my descent. Slipping out of control can be a terrifying experience. But there can be more fearful slips. Ever have the fear of abandonment or rejection or that leads to an anxiety so bad that you felt your heart would beat out of your chest? You feel like you’re going down a long winding chute picking up speed leading directly to annihilation. It is a fear of non-being, leaving you in terror, trying anything to bring relief. The Psalmist knew what it felt like. He cried, “I am slipping!” The good news is God can help you down from those mental and emotional cliffs that you are hanging on to by a thread. As difficult as it may seem, as terrifying you may think the outcome could be, God is with you to help and comfort. He will help you find a way. The Psalmist was in a dilemma. It was sheer horror that made him cry out to God, “My foot is slipping!” But when he did, God’s unfailing, better said, His never failing love, supported him. When his anxiety was so high, when doubts filled his mind so much that he could not stand it, God consoled him, bringing real joy deep to his soul. God will do the same for you. Bring him your fear, your anxiety, your terror. Bring Him to the spot where you are slipping. Reach up your hand and He will grab you. He will hold you with His strong arm. He will put your feet in a safe place.

TPRAYER
Father, I am slipping. Please come to my aid. Catch me, hold me, help me find better footing. I need Your consolation. I need Your never failing love. I need Your help. Guide me, comfort me, rescue me, in the name of Jesus I pray.
AMEN

VERSE
“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.” Romans 12:6-8 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Are you aware that God has given you certain passions and abilities to use for His glory? God has given every believer at least one spiritual gift for doing His will in this world. And then His Holy Spirit nudges you to use it through a strong desire to serve Him in a way that seems to make sense for you. Paul gives examples like serving, teaching, giving and leadership. So if different people all see a need, like helping the homeless in the community, He could motivate one to serve food at a shelter, another to teach at a job readiness class, another to give of their income to provide for the needed shelter and yet another to lead a church to get involved. Each person reacted to the same problem through the way God motivated them, using the gifts he blessed them with. Today, ask God to reveal to you the different ways you could
serve Him. He has given you spiritual gifts and will show you when and where to use them.

PRAYER
Father, thank You that You have given me spiritual gifts. Help me learn everything I can about them and help me use them for your glory.
AMEN
