VERSE
It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night. Psalms 92:1,2 (NIV)

THOUGHT
You can’t eat one meal and say that is enough for the rest of the month. It is not good enough to take one breath and quit. Most of life seems to have a rhythm, a sustainability that comes from repeated processes. So it is with praise and joy. It is not good enough to have had joy once upon a time. You can’t live a victorious Christian life on memories of better days. No, with God, everyday has its measure of mercy and grace. Everyday has the presence of God. The question is, “Are we aware of it?” If we are going to get all we can out of life, then we need to make a conscious effort to be aware of the presence of God. What better way than to proclaim His love in the morning and, when the day is over, purposely reflect on His faithfulness.

PRAYER
Praise You, dear God, for Your love for me. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Help me to sing Your praises, to have a heart of gladness and a spirit of thankfulness for all You have done for me. Help me to proclaim Your love every morning and Your faithfulness every night. Might Your joy be my strength today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I proclaim God’s love for me in the morning and His faithfulness at night
See yourself praising God. Picture the morning and you rise and begin to praise Him for His deep love for you. Then see yourself at night, before you go to bed, realizing how faithful God was to you during the day. Sense the smile that comes to your face and the warmth in your heart as you recognize His love and faithfulness for you.

VERSE
“Until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.” Ephesians 4:13 (NLT)

THOUGHT
As a Christian, maturity is something to be aspired. It is not an automatic by-product of salvation. Jesus brings us salvation and we are “born again”. We become a new creature in Christ, but this is the beginning. Now we are committed to a maturing process. As children we are to mature into adulthood. As Christians, we are to grow into Christ. This is why Paul says that God has given us, “apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.” He writes, “Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” As we subject ourselves to the teaching and authority to those that Christ has given to us, we will mature in the Lord. Christ has come to give us life and give it more abundantly. This means He has come to help us mature. Where are you in your maturity? Have you missed a stage in your human development and need to mature in that area? Are you immature when it comes to certain emotions like anger, sadness, longing or fear? Does God need to do a work in your life? Ask Him to show you where you need to mature. Ask Him to guide you and help you be all that He intends you to be.

PRAYER
Father, point out my immaturities. I want to grow in You. I want to be all that You want me to be. So please, show me where I need to grow and mature and then show me how. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I am maturing in Christ
Picture yourself in the presence of Christ. You sense that He knows all about you. He knows your shortcomings but instead of fear or dread, you experience a caring connection with Him. You can tell from His demeanor that He loves you and wants you to mature. Instead of shame or chastisement, He bids you to come to Him, follow Him and allow Him to guide you into maturity. You say, “Yes Lord!” and affirm, “I am maturing in Christ.”

VERSE
“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NIV)

THOUGHT
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe your worry, fear, and sadness is a habit? This was an eye opener for me. The thought was intriguing because I knew that a habit could be broken and a new habit could take its place. So it was very exciting to consider that I could take the habit of worry, fear and sadness and trade it for a habit of happiness. To help me start the day with the habit of “happiness” I would get up and quote today’s verse outloud, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” That simple habit would allow me to focus and begin a string of thoughts that would lead to a more joyful outlook on life. It would allow me to energize faith before negative and pessimistic thinking could take root in my morning. How about you? Is happiness the choice that you have made today? If not, it is not too late. Happiness, joy, peace, faith can be yours. God has made us resilient and we can return to joy from painful emotions. This is the day the LORD has made; go ahead rejoice and be glad in it.

PRAYER
Father, today I choose happiness, joy and faith. Thank you that this is a day that you have made; please help me to rejoice today and be glad in it.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I choose to rejoice
Circumstances and emotions happen. We may not be able to control the circumstances but we can choose our emotions. We can be resilient and bounce back from worry, fear and sorrow. Visualize yourself worrying over a difficult circumstance. Feel the worry. But then bring God into the picture. Visualize God promising you His strength and power to see you through this difficult time. Sense you relief as you realize that you have a choice. You can choose to bounce back and choose to be peaceful and joyful. Allow yourself to experience the transformation. Chose to rejoice in today and be at peace and full of joy.

VERSE
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.’” John 6:35 (NIV)

THOUGHT
Have you ever been really hungry? Have you ever had a craving for a certain kind of food? Hunger is a tremendous human drive. Jesus said that He was the “bread of life” and if we believe in Him, we won’t be hunger again. But He wasn’t talking about alleviating our physical hunger. Instead, Jesus is talking about another kind of hunger; a hunger just as real. It is a spiritual hunger, a hunger of the soul. Just like a physical hunger, you can have many soulful cravings. These craving come from the needs of our heart. You may have a taste for love to fill your heart. Many people have a hunger for inner peace, joy and happiness. There are also hungers that are born out of unfulfilled needs like a hunger for recognition, love and intimacy. Of course there are more base unspiritual appetites too, like lust, greed and materialism. Jesus knows our real hungers. He knows what will really satisfy our deepest needs. So today, hear the words of Jesus, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.” Come to Jesus. Feed on His teachings and the personal relationship that He offers to you. He is the only one that can truly satisfy your hunger.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me a spiritual appetite. I really need You to feed my soul. I need Your bread of life to feed and nourish the deepest parts of me. Thank You that You promised if I come to You, I will never be spiritually hungry. I come to You now, dear Jesus. Feed me I pray.
AMEN

MEDITATION
Jesus satisfies my soul’s hunger
Sit quietly and take a look inward. Search your heart and feel your hunger. What is it that you are longing for? See Jesus come now with the bread of life. Let Him feed you. Feel the power of His love and peace feed your most inner needs. Affirm, “Jesus satisfies my soul’s hunger.”

VERSE
“But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people.” Psalms 52:8-9

THOUGHT
Not all planting environments are the same. Amount of sunlight, average temperatures, availability of water and soil composition can have a dramatic effect on the growth of a plant. This is why David uses the illustration of an olive tree growing in the house of God. Because of a Godly environment, David is saying the olive tree, which is symbolic of you and I, thrives. This is not just existing but living life to the fullest. What David is really saying is when we live in the presence of God, we do more than just grow spiritually, we thrive. The result of thriving in the presence of God is praise and trusting Him. So, what can you do to create a environment that makes you conscious of the presence of God in your life? What can you do to make your spiritual life thrive? You can start as David did by praising God and always trusting in His unfailing love.

PRAYER
Lord, I come to praise You today for Your unfailing love. I trust Your leadership to guide me and help me grow in Your presence. I desire to be like the olive tree that thrives in your house.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I thrive in the love of God
Imagine yourself like a plant in a garden. Feel the rain of God’s Spirit bring refreshment to your soul. Sense His word feed you and give you strength. Imagine the warmth of His love bring growth to your spiritual life. Affirm, “I thrive in the love of God!”

VERSE
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” James 1:19-20 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to get angry. How different would our life be if we would follow this simple advice? How more effective would we be in our job, ministry or dealing with those in our family? What opportunities to heal and bless others would be ours if we would submit to this behavior code? Today, we can make a choice. Choose to listen. Choose to think before we speak. Choose to pray before we act out our anger. With God, all things are possible.

PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for Your help this day to watch my tongue and emotions. Help me to really listen to others. Help me to be careful before I speak and help me control my temper. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I can be more like Your son Jesus.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I am quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry
Close your eyes. Picture yourself going about your different activities. See yourself interacting with others in a kind and peaceful way. Feel yourself behaving with self control. Feel what it feels to really listen to others at the same time waiting to speak. See yourself being patient, not easily bothered, choosing to trust God rather than act out in anger toward others. As you visualize this, ask God to let this become more and more a reality in your life.

VERSE
“All the people were amazed and said to each other, ‘What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!”’ Luke 4:36 (NIV)

THOUGHT
Are you amazed yet? Not everyone was. In today’s passage when people heard Jesus’ teaching, witnessed His miracles, sensed His immense love, they ended up saying, “What authority and power!” And before Jesus left the earth and said “All authority was given to me,” it says that some people worshipped. But it also states that some doubted. Isn’t that just like us? We worship and we doubt. We trust and we fear. We have hope and we despair. What can make the difference? What can take us from doubt to worship? Spending time with Him. It was those that were with Him, watching and listening, that experienced His power and His authority. Those that “heard” Jesus say that all authority was His, well, they just heard it. Today, let yourself be amazed; spend time with Him.

PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come today to be amazed. I want to know You, know Your love, know Your power. Open my eyes, open my heart to all that You are. I come and worship You.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I am amazed at God’s love for me
Today come and quiet yourself before God. In quietness picture Christ dying on the cross for you. See Him gaze at you from the cross, happy to be your Savior. See Him rising from the tomb, looking for you. Find yourself walking alone and He comes running up to greet you and tell you, “I love you, I am going to Heaven, but I will be with you always.” Feel yourself fully amazed at His love for you!

VERSE
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the LORD: ‘I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.’” Hebrews 8:10, 12 (NLT)

THOUGHT
We get married and say, “For better or for worst.” We buy a house and sign a loan agreement. We get bids on a job and award a contract. We accept a job for an agreed upon salary. We live much of our life with promises, contracts, pledges and covenants. How difficult is it when one of them is broken? Doesn’t it play havoc with our life? That is why I find it fascinating that God has actually made a covenant with us. Who are we that God would make us a promise? And yet what a promise He has made. And what I love the best is God does not break His promises. In today’s passage God is saying that He is making a covenant with us. He promises to make us His people by working in our heart and mind. He promises to be our God. And then He takes away the one hindrance toward the fulfillment of the covenant, our sins. Yes our own sins would have breached our relationship. It is our sins that separates us from God, but by His mercy and grace, He even takes care of that! He promises to forgive all our sins! He makes a covenant with you and I to absolutely forgive our wickedness and to never, never, not ever remember any of our sins. How great is that? How awesome? Only God could make a promise like that! Only God can keep it. Today, take God at His word and confess all your sins to Him. Let Him love you, let Him totally forgive You.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your precious promises. Thank You for promising to never remember any of my sins. I come to You today for total forgiveness and freedom.
AMEN

MEDITATION
God promised to forgive all my sins
See yourself coming before God weighed down by all your sinfulness. Feel the shame, regret, embarrassment as you stand their exposed. As you begin to sense His majesty and power, feel the separation between you and Him. As you continue to sense His infiniteness and holiness you begin to feel a helplessness. But then He comes to you with a covenant to be your God and to forgive you of all your sins. Your fear turns to deep gratitude and joy as you experience His warmth, His love and forgiveness. You affirm, “God has promised to forgive all my sins!”

VERSE
“Accept my prayer as incense offered to you, and my upraised hands as an evening offering.” Psalms 141:2 (NLT)

THOUGHT
There are many things you can do with your life. You have skills, knowledge and experiences that afford you many different and unique occupational opportunities. However, there is one vocation that God has put in the heart of all who follow Him. It does not require skill, special knowledge, certain aptitudes or pedigree. It only requires a heart that loves God. He has called you to be a Priest. You have been given the sacred privilege to come before God in humble adoration. Dressed in a robe, cleansed by the blood of Jesus Himself, you stand before God forgiven and accepted as His child. There you are before God, your prayers received by Him as an incense offering, bringing Him extreme pleasure. As you praise Him, your hands reach up to Him in a Holy embrace, received as an offering of love and praise. There is nothing God desires more. No offering has ever been so precious to God as your adoration, praise and prayers. Come today as God’s Priest and offer Him your love. Come into His presence, love Him, talk to Him, adore Him – it is your sacred privilege.

PRAYER
Father, I come before You now with a humble heart. Hear my prayers. Receive them as a scared offering. I lift up my hands to You in love and adoration. Please accept my praise as a Holy offering to You in all Your majesty. I worship You today as my Lord and my God.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I love to worship God
Today, see yourself as a Priest before God. You are coming to Him in humility, bringing an offering of praise and thanksgiving. Sense yourself overwhelmed with gratitude for all He has done for you. Let your senses become filled with wonder. Love Him, praise Him, worship Him. Meditate on the fact that God has made you a priest, forgiven and loved, so you can come before Him with worship.

VERSE
“He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the godly. The LORD protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.” Psalms 146:7-9 (NLT)

THOUGHT
Is this the God we see in the Bible? Is this the God we pray to? Where do we find this God in our Christian lifestyle? The truth is, the God we worship in the Bible has always taken the poor, downtrodden and displaced people seriously. He expects us to do the same. We serve God when we serve others. Ask God to show you ways you can serve the needy. He cares. Do we?

PRAYER
Lord, I confess I need to be more compassionate. I need to be more proactive in helping the lonely, hurting and distraught. Please show me ways I can start to love those in need the way You do. Even today, lead me to someone I can help. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I will care for the poor and needy
Picture Jesus laboring day after day, healing the sick, casting out demons, and teaching those that would listen. You can sense His deep sorrow over the plight of the needy. You can hear Him as He says, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” You can feel the tug of the Holy Spirit on your heart and you affirm, “I will care for the poor and needy.”

VERSE
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

THOUGHT
What we think can dictate the way we feel. Then our feelings effect our thinking and so the spiral goes. So much of what we think at a rudiment level is false. Often what we worry about, the self talk we have, how we view ourself, our core beliefs about life, are based on lies, half-truths or erroneous assumptions. They enter our minds in stealth mode and before we know it, we are feeling down. These lies go unchallenged and cause all sorts of havoc in our lives. Paul says that there is a better way. He says to pray. Talk to God about our thoughts, expose them to the light of the Holy Spirit. He is able to guard our hearts and minds. William Backus in his book, “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” shares “Feelings follow your thoughts. Untruthful, negative thoughts lead to unpleasant feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration, while truthful, positive thoughts create corresponding pleasant and upbeat feelings.—Your feelings can serve as an alarm to remind you to question your thoughts and beliefs. Are they negative or positive? Are they true or false? Once you’ve begun to identify the underlying thoughts and beliefs, you are on your way to healing, wholeness, and happiness.” Today begin to follow Paul’s advice. When negative feelings come, “fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

PRAYER
Father, You know my inner person. You hear my self talk better than I do. By the power of the Holy Spirit please alert me to my negative thinking and help me fix my thoughts on what is true. Help me think with my faith in Your love and power, not with my feelings. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

MEDITATION
I fix my thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable
The way we correct our thinking is through focus. Focused attention on what we feel and what we are thinking. Focus on what God says in His word. Focus on the presence of God and His love for us. Today, spend a few minutes focusing on today’s affirmation. Repeat it three times slowly, thinking of each word. Let your mind focus on what it means to you. Focus on God’s presence and His help in keeping you focused. Today shut out the interference and practice focused attention
