We can be saved from the second death! Those Jesus raised during His ministry, if they continued to be faithful, would not face the second death, for Christ had taken that upon Himself at Calvary to pay the price for every soul. We can rejoice in the Lord and walk in His victory over sin and death!

"To the believer, Christ is the resurrection and the life. In our Saviour the life that was lost through sin is restored; for He has life in Himself to quicken whom He will. He is invested with the right to give immortality. The life that He laid down in humanity, He takes up again, and gives to humanity. 'I am come,' He said, 'that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.' 'Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.' 'Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.' John 10:10; 4:14; John 6:54." {The Desire of Ages, page 786, paragraph 786, paragraph 4}

"To the believer, death is but a small matter. Christ speaks of it as if it were of little moment. 'If a man keep My saying, he shall never see death,' 'he shall never taste of death.' To the Christian, death is but a sleep, a moment of silence and darkness. The life is hid with Christ in God, and 'when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.' John 8:51, 52; Colossians 3:4." {The Desire of Ages, page 787, paragraph 1}

Let us persevere in Jesus!!

10/31/2024

Christ offers us His all-sufficient salvation. His selfless ministry is a profound marvel to the onlooking universe. His sacrifice is essential for us. As we yield fully to Him, all of the fruits of the Spirit will be revealed in our lives without one missing. Oh, let us walk in harmony with Christ's character whose power to save to the uttermost has never been diminished. Believe more fully, pray more fervently, and trust Christ unreservedly so you can be all He calls you to be!

"With amazement the angels beheld the infinite love of Jesus, who, suffering the most intense agony of mind and body, thought only of others, and encouraged the penitent soul to believe. In His humiliation He as a prophet had addressed the daughters of Jerusalem; as priest and advocate He had pleaded with the Father to forgive His murderers; as a loving Saviour He had forgiven the sins of the penitent thief." {The Desire of Ages, page 752, paragraph 1}

When we are moved by the love of Christ, our hearts become changed by His infinite love. The miracle of God's converting grace can change sinners into saints that are kept by the Holy Spirit from falling back into sin that hurts the heart of God.

10/30/2024

The love Jesus has for all--including those causing Him such pain--is evidence to all that He is the Savior, whose divine nature shone forth from beneath His guise of humanity. We can see in Jesus the compassion of the Father's heart. He calls all to come to His Son and have life eternal. When we live by faith on Christ, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives without one missing. Let His character transform your character by beholding Him; the change is a supernatural work of grace offered freely to all.

"There stood the Son of God, wearing the robe of mockery and the crown of thorns. Stripped to the waist, His back showed the long, cruel stripes, from which the blood flowed freely. His face was stained with blood, and bore the marks of exhaustion and pain; but never had it appeared more beautiful than now. The Saviour's visage was not marred before His enemies. Every feature expressed gentleness and resignation and the tenderest pity for His cruel foes. In His manner there was no cowardly weakness, but the strength and dignity of long-suffering. In striking contrast was the prisoner at His side. Every line of the countenance of Barabbas proclaimed him the hardened ruffian that he was. The contrast spoke to every beholder. Some of the spectators were weeping. As they looked upon Jesus, their hearts were full of sympathy. Even the priests and rulers were convicted that He was all that He claimed to be." {The Desire of Ages, page 735, paragraph 4}

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. He understands our deep need, and offers us the healing from sin that is impossible without Him.

Imagine for a moment that you are heading in the "right" direction, following Jesus, but not allowing the changes in your character that Christ wants to bring about. In a sense, that describes Judas for the period of time that he was following Christ. It looked like he was following Christ, but he was not converted, not fully surrendered, and not experiencing the full manifestation of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing. Let us learn from the lesson and choose to be fully surrendered to Christ. Remember--Jesus' way is the way of life; our way without surrendering to Christ is the way of death.

"Judas had joined the disciples when multitudes were following Christ. The Saviour's teaching moved their hearts as they hung entranced upon His words, spoken in the synagogue, by the seaside, upon the mount. Judas saw the sick, the lame, the blind, flock to Jesus from the towns and cities. He saw the dying laid at His feet. He witnessed the Saviour's mighty works in healing the sick, casting out devils, and raising the dead. He felt in his own person the evidence of Christ's power. He recognized the teaching of Christ as superior to all that he had ever heard. He loved the Great Teacher, and desired to be with Him. He felt a desire to be changed in character and life, and he hoped to experience this through connecting himself with Jesus. The Saviour did not repulse Judas. He gave him a place among the twelve. He trusted him to do the work of an evangelist. He endowed him with power to heal the sick and to cast out devils. But Judas did not come to the point of surrendering himself fully to Christ. He did not give up his worldly ambition or his love of money. While he accepted the position of a minister of Christ, he did not bring himself under the divine molding. He felt that he could retain his own judgment and opinions, and he cultivated a disposition to criticize and accuse." {The Desire of Ages, page 716, paragraph 3}

We can look to Christ and look to Him in full surrender, moved by His unselfish love. The history of Judas is a warning in the Bible. We can choose to be true disciples and surrender to the divine molding in our characters, like John the evangelist did.

How hard are your trials to bear? Look to Jesus and your trials start to come into perspective. He suffered so that when we are suffering, we can know we have One who can help us to bear it--and not yield to sin. He took the suffering of our sins upon Himself to give us life and life more abundantly.

"Christ suffered keenly under abuse and insult. At the hands of the beings whom He had created, and for whom He was making an infinite sacrifice, He received every indignity. And He suffered in proportion to the perfection of His holiness and His hatred of sin. His trial by men who acted as fiends was to Him a perpetual sacrifice. To be surrounded by human beings under the control of Satan was revolting to Him. And He knew that in a moment, by the flashing forth of His divine power, He could lay His cruel tormentors in the dust. This made the trial the harder to bear." {The Desire of Ages, page 700, paragraph 3}

The harder your trials, the greater need there is to depend fully on Christ. But even the smallest trial can only borne by the grace of Christ. We need Jesus continually. He understands the depths of our experience in ways that no other can. But He can also produce in and through us all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing as long as our will is fully surrendered to Him. Keep holding on to Jesus, for He is holding on to you!

10/27/2024

Depression and discouragement are not things we like to experience, but because of the weight of our sin upon Him, Jesus battled through this, making the decision to go through with the crowning sacrifice at Calvary. He tasted the sufferings of death so we could be set free from sin's deceptive power. If you are feeling the pressure of depression or discouragement, turn to the word of God and see Jesus giving His life for you. Let His love transform your heart. Then your heart renewed by the Holy Spirit will bring forth all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing by a constant abiding connection with your Savior, Jesus! Oh, how much He loves us! How much He suffered to save us!

"Christ's agony did not cease, but His depression and discouragement left Him. The storm had in nowise abated, but He who was its object was strengthened to meet its fury. He came forth calm and serene. A heavenly peace rested upon His bloodstained face. He had borne that which no human being could ever bear; for He had tasted the sufferings of death for every man." {The Desire of Ages, page 694, paragraph 1}

Christ offers us His peace. It passes all understanding. He is the only way of salvation and the only One who can bear the sin of the whole world. We can safely rest in His will in a complete surrender to Him!

10/27/2024

Where are you looking?

If we look up to Jesus and the eternal realities presented in the word of God, it can have a profound shift in our mental and emotional health. Christ knew His disciples would face intense trials--so He sought to have them dwell on what would never pass away. We may, by yielding fully to Christ, experience His mind in us where all of the fruits of the Spirit abide without one missing, enabling us to stay calm and cheerful even in the trials that we face preparatory to the second coming of Christ. Trials well borne today will strengthen the character for greater trials tomorrow. "Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered" (Hebrews 5:8). Christ set the example, and He made the sacrifice for us that gives us power to be cleansed from sin, ready for perfect, prompt obedience! God will have a people that fully reflect Him, settled into the truth both intellectually and spiritually so that they cannot be moved! Let us participate in His miracle-working grace moment-by-moment!

"But the Saviour’s words to them were full of hope. He knew that they were to be assailed by the enemy, and that Satan’s craft is most successful against those who are depressed by difficulties. Therefore He pointed them away from 'the things which are seen,' to 'the things which are not seen.' 2 Corinthians 4:18. From earthly exile He turned their thoughts to the heavenly home." {The Desire of Ages, page 662, paragraph 4}

Our heavenly home is a "for sure" reality. What we will face in this life is full of unknowns, but God is gracious to guide and help us in all we face. Keep looking up to Jesus! He loves you and will help you to keep your mind stayed on Him! "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because He trusteth in Thee" (Isaiah 26:3).

10/25/2024

Praise the Lord for the infinite sacrifice of Christ. His love wins and heals our hearts. If we behold Him who died at Calvary for us, surrendering fully to Him, we will be changed. He is able to convert and renew our hearts to reflect His loveliness of character, making us partakers of the divine nature so we can reflect all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing as we obey our loving God up to the light He has manifested to us!

"Looking upon the crucified Redeemer, we more fully comprehend the magnitude and meaning of the sacrifice made by the Majesty of heaven. The plan of salvation is glorified before us, and the thought of Calvary awakens living and sacred emotions in our hearts. Praise to God and the Lamb will be in our hearts and on our lips; for pride and self-worship cannot flourish in the soul that keeps fresh in memory the scenes of Calvary." {The Desire of Ages, page 661, paragraph 2}

"He who beholds the Saviour's matchless love will be elevated in thought, purified in heart, transformed in character. He will go forth to be a light to the world, to reflect in some degree this mysterious love. The more we contemplate the cross of Christ, the more fully shall we adopt the language of the apostle when he said, 'God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.' Galatians 6:14." {The Desire of Ages, page 661, paragraph 2}

What an infinite gift we have received in Christ, and what a blessing it is to surrender fully to Him who has power to transform sinners into saints!

10/24/2024

Have you heard of "show and tell"? In a sense, that is how Jesus sought to reach the hearts of His disciples. He knew that the deceptive power of selfishness was seeking to pull them away from the true joy of divine communion and service. So in harmony with His life and lessons, Christ stooped to the humblest duty, washed the feet of His disciples, and showed them the love that would win each of their hearts if they would but surrender to His love.

"How was Christ to bring these poor souls where Satan would not gain over them a decided victory? How could He show that a mere profession of discipleship did not make them disciples, or insure them a place in His kingdom? How could He show that it is loving service, true humility, which constitutes real greatness? How was He to kindle love in their hearts, and enable them to comprehend what He longed to tell them?" {The Desire of Ages, page 644, paragraph 3}

Christ's love is powerful enough to convert and cleanse the heart of all who will yield to its influence. All but Judas did make that surrender. May we be among those who surrender all, experience all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing, and gladly go in the path of service where God calls. The foot washing service is a consecrated ordinance that reminds us of the loveliness of Jesus and calls us to minister as He did. Each time we wash one another's feet, we have the privilege of remembering what Christ did for us. His love wins hearts. Will you let Him win yours?

10/23/2024

Jesus invites us to experience His character manifest in love and mercy to others! All of the fruits of the Spirit will be revealed in our lives without one missing as we are fully converted in surrender of all we have and are to Christ! Let us put all our efforts and strength into blessing souls and winning them to our Redeemer!

"The restless energy that is so often a source of danger to the young might be directed into channels through which it would flow out in streams of blessing. Self would be forgotten in earnest work to do others good." {The Desire of Ages, page 640, paragraph 5}

"Those who minister to others will be ministered unto by the Chief Shepherd. They themselves will drink of the living water, and will be satisfied. They will not be longing for exciting amusements, or for some change in their lives. The great topic of interest will be, how to save the souls that are ready to perish. Social in*******se will be profitable. The love of the Redeemer will draw hearts together in unity." {The Desire of Ages, page 641, paragraph 1}

There is such joy that comes into our hearts in bringing others joy and happiness. In order to be happy ourselves, we must live to make others happy. We can abide in Christ and do what He calls us to do as we stay vitally connected to Him! Let us not forget what Jesus values in our character experience here: "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me" (Matthew 25:40).

10/22/2024

Jesus is coming again very soon! But He has not given us a date for His return, though the signs of His coming are clearly multiplying!

"Because we know not the exact time of His coming, we are commanded to watch. 'Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when He cometh shall find watching.' Luke 12:37. Those who watch for the Lord's coming are not waiting in idle expectancy. The expectation of Christ's coming is to make men fear the Lord, and fear His judgments upon transgression. It is to awaken them to the great sin of rejecting His offers of mercy. Those who are watching for the Lord are purifying their souls by obedience to the truth. With vigilant watching they combine earnest working. Because they know that the Lord is at the door, their zeal is quickened to co-operate with the divine intelligences in working for the salvation of souls. These are the faithful and wise servants who give to the Lord's household 'their portion of meat in due season.' Luke 12:42. They are declaring the truth that is now specially applicable. As Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Moses each declared the truth for his time, so will Christ's servants now give the special warning for their generation." {The Desire of Ages, page 634, paragraph 2}

The special message for this time is the Three Angels' Messages found in Revelation 14:6-12: "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

Let us give the message while we surrender unreservedly to Jesus, for He will manifest through us all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing as we abide in Him! He gives us the grace and strength to live in obedience to all of God's commandments!

10/21/2024

Submission comes how? What is the source of a complete surrender? How can we fully yield to God?

Look to Jesus. His submission is offered to us as a gift. His mission could only be fulfilled in this way. By letting Christ have our whole heart, all of the fruits of the Spirit will be manifest in our lives without one missing, empowering us to do God's will by constant union and communion with Him. His obedience led to His sacrificial death; the obedience God gives us leads us to experience His victory over sin, transforming our character to make us witnesses for the glory of God to this world and the onlooking universe.

"Then came divine submission to His Father's will. 'For this cause,' He said, 'came I unto this hour. Father, glorify Thy name.' Only through the death of Christ could Satan's kingdom be overthrown. Only thus could man be redeemed, and God be glorified. Jesus consented to the agony, He accepted the sacrifice. The Majesty of heaven consented to suffer as the Sin Bearer. 'Father, glorify Thy name,' He said. As Christ spoke these words, a response came from the cloud which hovered above His head: 'I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.' Christ's whole life, from the manger to the time when these words were spoken, had glorified God; and in the coming trial His divine-human sufferings would indeed glorify His Father's name." {The Desire of Ages, page 624, paragraph 4}

Christ's sufferings offer us a door of hope. "With His stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5). Seeing the pain and agony He endured on account of sin, His love works the renunciation of selfishness in our souls. Oh, let us abide in Christ and allow His love to constrain us forward in mission to win souls. Bearing our cross today gives the opportunity for others to hear the gospel and come into a saving relationship with Jesus.
