SUNDAY THINKING CAP POST: SIMEON-Luke 2:25-35
In a time where there had been a famine for 400 years in the land of Israel. Not a famine of food, but of hearing Gods voice. It was spiritually dry ground, Isaiah prophesied Jesus Christ would come forth like a root out of dry ground. There was nothing going on spiritually but dead religious activity. No Messianic promises were pulsating in the people creating vibrant expectation. Heaven was silent, or at least the people had lost the ability to hear. God had released a judicial blindness and deafness on these people, Isaiah 6:8-10
But, there was one old man named Simeon in whom all the Christology of the Old Testaments types and shadows was fully operative. He was waiting for the manifestation of all those promises. He was told he would not die until his eyes beheld the Lords Christ, the SUBSTANCE of all that had been hidden in shadow and type.
His ministry would be easy to miss in the spurious activity of religion in the temple and Jerusalem in those days. Just a doddering old man. Easy to ignore!! Sure a nice old fella to be sure ...but not that important. But within him was a reality those busy keeping their duty could not begin to fathom. Simeon was one who could see the massive epochal paradigm about to come upon Israel and the whole Gentile world.
God seems to always have his remnant of groaning ones who can feel the gravity of heavens upward pull and see the majesty of what He has ordained. They can sense when the matrix of Gods purpose is about to break forth in time and space. Simeon was led to go up into the temple at the precise moment when Joseph and Mary entered to dedicate their child according to the law. BAM!! There He is ...the Lords Christ, a eight day old baby. Simeon took him into his arms and presented him to a broken world as the prophecy concerning Jesus Christ flowed from his once groaning, but now rejoicing lips. His work was done and Simeon could depart this world in peace.
Today God still has His Simeon ministry! Those who see what others can't and hear what others ears are closed to. Another breaking forth from heaven to earth, something far greater than an awakening or a revival. The fullness of Him who fills all things in a final consummation. These groaning ones are as well easy to ignore, not prominent in today's scurrying religious activity. But they none-the less have joined with a groaning creation, coupled with the Spirits groaning and will never be satisfied until they see Jesus Christ once again presented to to this world as Lord and King, to whom every knee will bow and every tongue confess ...HE alone is LORD.
To those whom I speak, be strong ...and groan on! The transition is nearing.
