I was thinking about the word new.
I liked this definition from Oxford Languages.
“NEW: already existing but seen, experienced, or acquired recently or now for the first time.”
I think of newness along with redemption. New creation in Christ. Salvation and forgiveness. New morning mercies. Fresh start. Clean slate.
The beautiful thing about life with Jesus is that our story is always being written.
Ever-changing. Ever-growing. Ever-learning. Always the opportunity for newness of life, purpose, and joy because of Him. Your life, already existing, can be changed or experienced in a different way for the first time once you invite Him in.
So do me a favor and take a moment today to sit. Sit still with yourself. Maybe a pen and piece of paper, too. Sit and think of this past year. Sit and think of how far you have come. Think about your story. Think about the last few paragraphs (or even last few chapters) that have been written in your book of life.
Maybe with this *new* year it is time to put a period (or an exclamation point) and mark the end of a chapter that needs to be wrapped up so a new one can begin.
With this new year, maybe it’s time to close the chapter on that unhealthy relationship you can’t seem to walk away from. Maybe it’s time to turn the page on satans lies that have held you captive for the past few chapters of life. Maybe it’s time to make a big move, or a small one, and start a new chapter where you’re truly walking alongside God and seeking Him every day.
In Christ, life is NEW. Each day comes a theoretical clean slate that can help you start writing that new chapter of your life’s story.
Your story is still being written. It’s a beautiful thing. Like new. Praise Jesus.
