FINDING FREEDOM
I find myself constantly fighting with my flesh. I have strongholds in my life that I wish would just go away. The fight never seems to end and it feels like I am letting God down every way possible. There is only one hope of victory and that is through Jesus Christ. Doesn't seem like it makes the pain any less, but my hope is in Him
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Romans 7:19
Paul had the same problem in his life. I think that all of us struggle with strongholds. It can be easy to feel defeated, especially when you try so hard to do and think the right things.
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit Romans 8:1
I have held myself in condemnation many times for personal failures, but Paul gives us encouragement that we don't have to.
We can find victory over these strongholds. In order to do that we must first understand what a stronghold is and how it gets there in the first place. The enemy does not want us to claim out\r victory and walk in continuous defeat because we cannot serve God's purpose when we have given up. It is God's will for us to have joy and peace in our lives. I have spent years trying to figure out how to have the joy and peace in my life that the bible speaks of with no success; why? Because I decided to do things the world's way with the world's way of thinking, no surprise that doesn't work. Many of us find ourselves spinning our wheels, trying to do the right things but finding no success because we keep running into strongholds in our life.
The first and most important key is believing in Christ Jesus. He is the answer for everything we could possibly need. God has given him all power and authority over heaven and earth.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:18 KJV
Understanding that Freedom is found in Christ, there is no problem too great or too small for Him. He is the truth. It's in truth that overcoming our strongholds becomes possible.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36 KJV
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32 KJV
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV
We see in these passages that Christ is the truth, and it is in Him and by Him that we can find freedom. So we now know that the Key factor here is first knowing Christ. If this is not the case for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to us so we can help you get to know him.
The next factor is understanding what a stronghold is, and how it becomes one in our lives in the first place. A stronghold is a fortress, A fortification established in a key location to best defend a territory. Strongholds are built in our minds because the mind is a key location to control the entire body. There is no action that you do that doesn't first come through your mind.
strongholds are lies created by the enemy That we in turn, learn to believe. To have a stronghold in our mind, we must first be deceived. We cannot be deceived until we first believe the lie that we have been given. we know that the lies come from the enemy because the word of God tells us that the enemy is in fact the father of all lies.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44 KJV
In the scripture above, we see Jesus talking to the Pharisees. Referring to them. As being of their father, who is the Father of lies. The Stronghold. Being for them In this case, religion. Christ refers to Satan as being the father of lies. So as stated above, if Jesus being the truth speaks this, then the lies must come from the enemy. This is key to understanding how strongholds become so prominent in our minds. The enemy gives us a Lie, We then learn to believe it, and once it is believed, it then becomes deception because we are now deceived based on the lie that has been given.
Liar leads to deception. Deception leads to thoughts and feelings, Thoughts and feelings lead to behavior. Our behaviors then become habits, Our habits become cycles., And then our cycles become Bo***ge. And now we have found ourselves with a stronghold to deal with.
Some examples. Of strongholds that we as Christians have a tendency to find ourselves dealing with, are things such as depression, unforgiveness. Confusion. Addiction. All strongholds come from a root lie that leads to the deception in our minds that we learn to believe. All root lies will always contradict God's truth., An example would be for anxiety and fear. Symptoms would include paranoia, worst case scenario, thinking and unable to experience joy. The root line would be to be afraid of punishment, while the truth is in fact God is for you and not against you. Fear always asks what if, while faith always declares, even if. We see examples of faith. In the book of Daniel.
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Daniel 3:17-18
We see an example here, of Abendnego, Speaking to King Nebuchadnezzar. The scenario that is playing out is that King Nebuchadnezzar is about to throw three men into the fiery furnace for failing to worship the king. And these three individuals decided that they had greater faith in God than they did the king. And so instead of worshipping the king, they risked their lives to continue to worship God instead of being fearful of the king. They said that even if God did not deliver them, then they would continue to worship God because God is God. They trusted God to deliver them, but they understood. That God who is sovereign, Still deserved glory and honor even if He chose not to. As we read on, we will see that God does in fact deliver them, because God honors faith. They found freedom. From their stronghold. By putting their trust in God.
Strongholds and overcoming them comes down to the simple concept of how we think. So the question then becomes, what do we need to do to overcome the strongholds? If the strongholds are there because of the way we think Then the way to overcome them is to change the way we think. And as always, we find this once again in the Word of God.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2
The more you transform your mind to the ways of Christ. You will find yourself feeling and thinking the way Christ did, becoming more like him. Which, to be honest, is in fact the goal of all Christians if you definitely have a relationship with Christ. And much like how a stronghold is built, you start building a stronghold, if you will, that is based in Christ instead of one that is given to you by the enemy. A stronghold built in truth instead of deception. Because the same concept applies. You walk in truth. You feel in truth. Those feelings become actions in truth. And those actions become habitual. And you find yourself Finally walking in that freedom that God has promised.
