Bay City Baptist Church AWANA Clubs

Bay City Baptist Church AWANA Clubs AWANA is a global, nonprofit ministry committed to the belief that the greatest impact for Christ starts with kids who know, love and serve Him.

Awana helps churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Our programs offer a proven approach for evangelizing and discipling kids in the church and community. As a ministry leader for over 60 years, Awana is making an impact. A recent national survey found Awana to be as important to our alumni's spiritual foundation as al

l other church activities combined. Among alumni who participated in our programs for at least six years, 92.7 percent still attend church at least weekly as adults!

Tonight is our last night of Awana for the year! It's been so much fun working with the kids this year, thank you everyone who helped, thank you to all the parents for bringing your kids and trusting us with teaching them. It has been a blessing to be a part of their journey.

Tonight our lesson was on Noah. We learned that there was evil and wickedness on the whole earth, except for Noah. So God wiped out all of the evil from the earth with a great flood, but saved Noah and his family. After the flood, God promised to never flood the whole earth again. He also told Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply, just like He told Adam and Eve. Then Noah planted a vineyard (very similar to a garden) and worked it, just like Adam and Eve. Then, Noah sinned, just like Adam and Eve. We would need another person who could live a sinless life and take our sins so we could be forgiven. That person was Jesus, and God promised that whoever believes in Him would have everlasting life. And just like God keeps His promise to never flood the earth again, He will keep that promise too!

This week was our last regular week of AWANA! Next week we'll be having our awards night. We will still have devotion time and game time. Then, at 7:10, we'll have our award ceremony in the auditorium, and then back to the cafeteria for cookies and ice cream.

For our lesson this week, we finished up the book of Esther. Esther revealed to the king that she was Jewish and that Haman plotted to kill all of the Israelites in the kingdom. Haman is killed and the Israelites are allowed to defend themselves from their enemies. The book ends with the Jewish people being saved and a new holiday being started. The book of Esther is a beautiful reminder that God is with us, even when we don't see Him. It reminds us that He doesn't always use the splitting of seas or raining fire from the sky, most of the time He uses ordinary people doing ordinary things.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the awards next week!

This week is the chapter review for T&T and we continued going over the story of Esther:

We talked about even a while bunch of "coincidences." Esther is made queen, right before there's a plot to kill all of the Israelites. The king has trouble sleeping and his servant reads about how they forgot to honor Mordecai for saving the king. Haman decides to kill Mordecai the night the king remembers Mordecai saved his life. And then, when Haman thinks the king wants to honor him, he really wants to honor Mordecai. Haman tells his wife what happens, and she realizes that Mordecai is Jewish, and that Haman won't prevail against him. We ended tonight with Haman being summoned to Esther's party. There are some people who might look at a story like this and think these are all coincidences, but we know that God's hand is on His people every step of the way. Next week we'll finish the story!

Next week is a makeup week for any verses the kids missed throughout the year.

Tonight T&T's verse was:
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

With only a few weeks left in the year, I thought we would do something special. For the last few weeks, we'll be walking through the book of Esther together.

Tonight we learned about king Ahasuerus, and that while he's called a king, he does not act kingly. He gets angry easily, he let's other people control him, likes to party for months at a time, and drinks wine until it makes him stupid. We learned how he got mad at his wife and gets rid of her and then marries Esther. Mordecai, Esther's older cousin who raised her, saves the kings life, be the king honors a man named Haman instead. We learned how Haman, who is a lot like the king, got so mad at Mordecai that he plans to kill all of the Jewish people in Persia, and make a law that in 11 months, anyone can kill any Jewish person they find, man, woman, or child. And the Jewish people can't do anything but wait. We learned that God is mentioned once in the book, but He's there, working in the background. Right now, the Israelites might feel things are hopeless, but soon they will see God working in their lives in unexpected ways.

Next week we'll continue the story!

Next week is also a review week, so no need verse.

Tonight T&T's verse was:
Ephesians 4:1-3 NKJV
[1] I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, [2] with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, [3] endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Tonight we learned that anyone can choose to follow Jesus and be a Christian, and while that is one of the most amazing things about Christianity, it can also be a very difficult thing. We learned that because anyone can be Christian, there will sometimes be people who act different, look different, and think different from us. But, no matter those differences, if we have all accepted Christ as our savior, that means we are all one in Christ, and we should love one another, be patient with one another, and look to needs the others.

Next week T&T's verse is:
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

This week T&T's verse was:

Matthew 20:28 NKJV
[28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

We learned that many kings throughout history believed they were chosen by their god or actually were one of their gods in human form, and expected everyone to do anything they said. But, Jesus actually was God in human form, and He did not expect people to serve Him, He wanted to serve others. We learned that if we want to be like Jesus we need to serve others, and when we serve others we can bring life and flourishing to their lives, and help them to know God's love.

Next week their verse is:
Ephesians 4:1-3 NKJV
[1] I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, [2] with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, [3] endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

T&T's verse this week was:
John 4:23-24 NKJV
[23] But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. [24] God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Tonight we learned that we can worship God by showing our love for Him, praising Him, and glorifying Him. We learned that we don't need to be at church to worship Him (though, that's a good place to do it), but we can worship God whenever our wherever we are. We also learned that when we worship God, we should mean what we say, mean what we sing, and give God the glory for whatever we do.

Next week their verse is:
Matthew 20:28 NKJV
[28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
