🌿 Come Sing With Us at St. Mary of the Angels
Our parish choir is growing, and we would love to welcome new voices. Whether you’ve sung for years or simply enjoy lifting your heart in song, there is a place for you here.

Music is one of the most beautiful ways we pray together – and your voice could help inspire our parish family each week.
If you feel called to join us, we’d be delighted to have you.

The Adult Choir sings Sundays for the 9:00 am liturgy. This choir also sings for special events such as Christmas and Holy Week. A variety of music is sung with many two-, three-, and four-part harmonies. Practice is on Thursdays at 6:00 pm.

The Resurrection Choir sings for funerals.

New this year is the addition of the Family Choir for families, with or without or children, or individuals who would like to occasionally sing. This choir will sing for the 9:00 am Sunday Mass the 2nd Sunday of each month, starting in October. More details to come.

Current choir members and new members--your participation in either or all choirs is encouraged and welcomed.

Our first practice for the Adult Choir will be Thursday, September 10th, beginning with a Potluck in the school Clare Hall at 5:30 pm, followed by a brief practice in Clare Hall. (Practices are in the church with the exception of this first one.)

Sunday, September 13th will begin “choir season” with singing for the 9:00 am liturgy.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please call the parish office and they will get you in touch with our Choir Director. Otherwise, just know you are welcome to “show up” on September 10th. There is a place in the choir for you!

🌿 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reflection: “In the Midst of Us”
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of the quiet power in unity of prayer: “If two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my Heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them.”

How comforting it is to know that Christ’s presence doesn’t depend on grandeur or numbers – only on hearts joined in faith. Whether we gather in our church pews, around a kitchen table, or in a moment of shared silence, He is there.

This Sunday invites us to cherish the gift of community – to pray together, forgive together, and walk together. When we unite our prayers, even the smallest gathering becomes holy ground.

May we feel His presence among us today and always, as we lift one another up in love and faith. 🪽💫🙏

🌿 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus begins to reveal to His disciples the path that lies ahead: a journey toward Jerusalem, toward suffering, toward the Cross – and ultimately toward resurrection. Peter, who only moments earlier proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah, cannot bear the thought of this. Out of love and fear, he tries to steer Jesus away from the road of sacrifice.

But Jesus responds with words that cut straight to the heart of discipleship: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

In effect, Jesus says, Stop trying to lead Me. Let Me lead you.
Peter’s mistake wasn’t lack of devotion – it was wanting a Messiah who fit his hopes rather than God’s plan. And Jesus gently but firmly reminds him that the way to life often passes through places we would never choose.

Discipleship doesn’t begin with clarity or courage. It begins with surrender – with trusting that God’s wisdom is greater than our own, and that His path, even when it winds through hardship, is always a path toward deeper life.

We all have crosses we would rather set down: a worry we carry, a disappointment we didn’t expect, a burden we never asked for. Yet Jesus invites us to follow Him through these places, not around them. He promises that when we stop clinging to our own plans and allow Him to lead, we discover a freedom and a peace the world cannot give.

As we enter this new week, may we have the grace to say:
“Lord, I will follow You – even here, even now, even through this.”
And may we trust that every step taken behind Christ, no matter how small, becomes a step toward the life He longs to give us.

Our Lady of Champion, Pray for us 🙏🙏🙏

In October 1859, in the dense woods near Robinsonville (now Champion), Wisconsin, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared three times to a humble 28-year-old Belgian immigrant named Adele Brise.

👉 Adele was a devout young woman who had made a vow to the Blessed Mother as a child. While walking a wooded trail she first saw a beautiful lady clothed in dazzling white, standing silently between a maple and a hemlock tree. The figure vanished, leaving a white cloud.

👉 A few days later, on October 9, while walking to Mass with her sister and a friend, Adele saw the lady again in the same spot. On the return journey, the apparition spoke:

“I am the Queen of Heaven, who prays for the conversion of sinners, and I wish you to do the same. Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation… Teach them their catechism, how to sign themselves with the sign of the Cross, and how to approach the sacraments. Go and fear nothing. I will help you.”

Adele took this mission to heart with extraordinary fidelity. She traveled long distances on foot, often 50 miles or more, teaching children their faith. Other women eventually joined her, and a small school and chapel were built on the apparition site.

👉 Her obedience bore powerful fruit. In 1871, during the catastrophic Peshtigo Fire, terrified families fled to the chapel. While the surrounding countryside was devastated for miles, the shrine grounds and everyone gathered there were miraculously spared—a powerful sign of Our Lady’s protection as Our Lady of Good Help.

On December 8, 2010 (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception), Bishop David L. Ricken of Green Bay officially declared the apparitions “worthy of belief”—the first and only Marian apparition in the United States to receive full Church approval. In 2016, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops named it a National Shrine, and in 2023 the title was officially changed to Our Lady of Champion.

Today we mark the 18th anniversary of Bishop David Ricken's installation as Bishop of Green Bay (Aug. 28, 2008)!

🌿 Reflection for the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 16:13-20

In today’s Gospel, Jesus leads His disciples to Caesarea Philippi – a place known for its many shrines and competing voices about who held power, truth, and authority. It’s there, in the midst of all those earthly claims, that Jesus asks a question that echoes through every generation: “Who do you say that I am?”

The disciples offer the opinions of the crowds, but Peter steps forward with a confession that changes everything: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” In that moment, Peter speaks a truth revealed not by the world around him, but by the Father. And Jesus responds with a promise that still anchors our faith today: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

This is the first time the word Church appears in the New Testament – born from a profession of faith, shaped by trust, and rooted in the identity of Christ Himself. The Church is not built on human strength, but on the truth of who Jesus is. It stands firm not because of Peter’s perfection, but because of God’s grace working through him.

As we reflect on this Gospel, we might ask ourselves the same question Jesus asked His disciples: Who do I say Jesus is – today, in my life, in my choices, in my hopes?

And just like Peter, we can answer with faith, even when we feel imperfect or unsure. Christ builds His Church – and our lives- on the steady rock of His love. 🪽💫🙏
