Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila of Denver and appointed Bishop James Golka, Bishop of the Colorado Springs Diocese, as successor.

Archbishop Aquila will formally introduce Archbishop-designate Golka at a media-only press conference scheduled today, at 9:30am.
The announcement will be livestreamed at www.archden.org/live-events, inviting the faithful across Colorado to share in this moment of grace for our local Church.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.

Today, St. Peter's joins the global Catholic community in mourning and in prayer for the repose of his soul, reflecting on his pontificate and invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit leading the Mystical Body of Christ into the future. Memorial services and special prayers in his honor will be announced in the coming days.

May Pope Francis rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of Christ. 🕊️
