U.S. Pushes Rapid Pressure on Rwanda to Withdraw Troops from Congo 🇨🇩

According to RFI, the United States is significantly increasing pressure on Rwanda to withdraw its troops and military equipment from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, following recent talks in Washington.

After the meeting, both the DRC and Rwanda agreed on what were described as “concrete measures” aimed at advancing a ceasefire and a broader de-escalation plan.

But behind the scenes, the pressure from Washington is described as very high.

U.S. officials are reportedly pushing to accelerate full implementation of the operational plan (CONOPS) before the end of the year, with an initial assessment expected before April 15.

At the center of these demands:

↘️Rwanda is expected to fully withdraw its forces and equipment from Congolese territory

↘️Kigali is also expected to lift so-called “defensive measures” in areas inside the DRC

These steps align with commitments outlined in the joint communiqué released after the Washington meeting.

While the timeline has not been made public, Washington expects the implementation to move fast.
