No One Has An Excuse - Romans 2:1-16

In Romans 2:1–16, Paul the Apostle warns that no one is excused before God when they judge others while committing the same sins themselves. God’s judgment is righteous and impartial, and His kindness is meant to lead people to repentance, not to give permission to continue in sin.

Paul explains that God “will render to each one according to his works” (ESV). Those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in doing good will receive eternal life, while those who reject the truth and practice unrighteousness will face wrath and judgment. Both Jews and Gentiles are accountable to God.

The passage emphasizes that merely hearing God’s law is not enough; true righteousness involves obeying Him. Even Gentiles, who did not possess the Mosaic Law, show that God’s moral law is written on their hearts as their consciences either accuse or defend them.

Paul concludes by pointing to the coming day when God will judge the secrets of men through Jesus Christ according to the gospel.

Daniel 7:1-8 The 4 Beasts

In Daniel 7:1–8, the prophet Daniel receives a troubling dream during the reign of Belshazzar. In the vision, four great beasts rise out of a stormy sea, each representing powerful kingdoms that would rule on the earth.

The first beast is like a lion with eagle’s wings. Its wings are torn off, and it is made to stand like a man and given a human mind.
The second beast resembles a bear raised up on one side with three ribs in its mouth, symbolizing a fierce and conquering kingdom.
The third beast looks like a leopard with four wings and four heads, emphasizing speed and divided authority.
The fourth beast is terrifying, strong, and different from the others. It has iron teeth, crushes everything in its path, and possesses ten horns.

As Daniel studies the horns, a smaller horn rises among them, uprooting three others. This little horn has human-like eyes and a boastful mouth, suggesting arrogance, intelligence, and blasphemous power.

The passage introduces God’s sovereignty over earthly kingdoms and sets the stage for later prophecies about judgment and the coming eternal kingdom.

God Saves Daniel from the Lions - Daniel 6:18-28

In Daniel 6:18–28, King Darius spends a sleepless night after placing Daniel in the lions’ den. Early the next morning, he rushes to the den and calls out in hope that Daniel’s God has rescued him.

Daniel answers that God sent His angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and he was unharmed because he was found innocent before God and had done no wrong against the king. Darius is overjoyed and orders Daniel to be lifted out of the den without injury because Daniel trusted in God.

The king then commands that the men who falsely accused Daniel be thrown into the lions’ den along with their families, and the lions overpower them immediately.

Afterward, Darius issues a decree to all the people in his kingdom that they should fear and honor Daniel’s God. He declares that:

God is the living God who endures forever.
His kingdom will never be destroyed.
He rescues and saves.
He performs signs and wonders.
He delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

The chapter ends by stating that Daniel prospered during the reigns of Darius and Cyrus the Persian.

God's Wrath Against All Mankind - Romans 1:18-32

In Romans 1:18–32, Epistle to the Romans Paul explains why humanity desperately needs the gospel. He describes God’s wrath against sin and ungodliness because people suppress the truth about Him.

Paul says that God has clearly revealed His existence and divine power through creation, so people are without excuse. Even though humanity knew about God, they refused to honor or thank Him. Instead, their thinking became foolish, and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for idols and created things.

Because people rejected Him, God “gave them up” to the sinful desires of their hearts. Paul describes how this rebellion led to moral corruption, impurity, dishonorable passions, and broken relationships. He emphasizes that people exchanged God’s truth for lies and chose to worship creation rather than the Creator.

The chapter ends with a long list of sinful attitudes and actions that flow from rejecting God, including:

envy
murder
strife
deceit
gossip
pride
disobedience to parents
lack of mercy

Paul concludes by saying that although people know God’s righteous standards, they continue practicing sin and even approve of others who do the same.

This passage sets up Paul’s main argument in Romans: all humanity—Jew and Gentile alike—is guilty before God and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ.

The Power of the Gospel - Romans 1:8-17

In Romans 1:8–17, Epistle to the Romans Paul begins by expressing gratitude for the believers in Rome because their faith is well known throughout the world. He explains that he constantly prays for them and longs to visit so he can encourage them spiritually and be encouraged by them in return.

Paul shares that he has often planned to come to Rome but has been prevented until now. He feels a responsibility to preach the gospel to all people—Greeks and non-Greeks, wise and unwise alike. Because of this calling, he is eager to preach the gospel in Rome as well.

The passage climaxes with Paul’s powerful statement about the gospel:

He is “not ashamed of the gospel” because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, both Jew and Gentile.
Through the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed.
Salvation comes by faith from beginning to end, summarized by the Old Testament quote: “The righteous shall live by faith.”

These verses introduce the central theme of Romans: salvation and righteousness come through faith in Jesus Christ, not through human effort or works.

Romans 1:1-7
In Epistle to the Romans 1:1–7, Paul the Apostle introduces himself as a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, called by God to preach the gospel. He explains that the gospel was promised beforehand through the prophets in the Scriptures and centers on Jesus Christ — descended from David according to the flesh, yet declared to be the Son of God with power through His resurrection from the dead.

Paul says he received grace and apostleship to bring people from all nations to obedience through faith for Christ’s name. He reminds the believers in Rome that they too are called by Jesus Christ and are loved by God and called to be saints.

The passage closes with a greeting of grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Daniel 6:1-17
In Book of Daniel 6:1–17, King Darius the Mede organizes his kingdom and places Daniel over many officials because Daniel has an excellent spirit and proves trustworthy and wise. The king even plans to set Daniel over the entire kingdom.

The other leaders become jealous and try to find wrongdoing in Daniel, but they cannot because he is faithful and honest. They realize the only way to trap him is through his devotion to God. The officials persuade King Darius to sign a law stating that for 30 days no one may pray to any god or person except the king, and anyone who disobeys will be thrown into a den of lions.

When Daniel learns about the decree, he continues praying to God three times a day with his windows open toward Jerusalem, just as he had always done. The officials catch him praying and report him to the king. Darius is deeply troubled because he respects Daniel and tries all day to save him, but the law of the Medes and Persians cannot be changed.

Finally, the king orders Daniel to be thrown into the lions’ den, saying:

“Your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!” — Daniel 6:16 (ESV)

A stone is placed over the den and sealed with the king’s signet so nothing can be changed concerning Daniel.
