I’ve been sitting here at my computer for a while staring at a blank page waiting for some inspiration so I could finish this article. So far, the inspiration has not hit me. I know this needs to be finished, and it would have been better if it was already done. It irritates me when I can’t think of anything……. So I sit here praying for God to give me something to say that’s worth printing.
Maybe that’s the point. I truly need to rely on God. Any wisdom that I have comes from God. Anything that is worth saying comes from God. This isn’t anything I can do by myself. I cannot truthfully say to God, “Hey God take a rest…I got this!” I am dependent on God. I am needy! I need to cry out to God. I need to be silent and listen.
In my pride I hate to admit this. I like to think of myself as fully capable… able to deal with everything that I face. I’m educated… I’ve had a number of wonderful and not so wonderful experiences. I have been created by God with purpose. However, without the daily empowerment of God through God’s Spirit I am powerless and wordless. I remember this doll I got one time. When I picked up the box that the doll came in, I read of all the wonderful things it could do. I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to open the box and see just what the doll could do. When I got the box opened, the doll just stared out into space and it lay motionless. I pulled it out and stood it up…still nothing. I looked around until I found the “on” button, pushed it…still nothing! I looked at the box again to see what I had to do to make the doll do all those wonderful things. As I was doing that, I saw the note in the bottom corner of the box…” Needs two C batteries” …. The doll came equipped to do a lot of things. However, it could do nothing without the power source! We need the power source too! We need God’s power source, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us to be able to use all the gifts and talents that God equipped us with. The Holy Spirit also imparts the “instructions” to know how to use what God has given us. We celebrate Pentecost as the coming of our Power Source! I am grateful for the Holy Spirit and for all the Spirt brings to us. How about you?
We are at the beginning of summer! School’s out! Summer school is starting, summer activities and vacations are beginning as well. Be safe! Have fun! Don’t forget church and all the other activities.
