Sometimes Christians can erroneously believe that pastors are the only ones who do work that matters. But Christ shows us that all our work can and should be done for the glory of God.

As Matt Rusten says, “Ordinary work is neither a disruption from what God cares about--the thing that pulls us away from the spiritually important stuff--nor a distraction from the Gospel. As Steven Garber has said, ‘Vocation is integral, not incidental, to the missio Dei.’”

We had a blessed Lord's Day yesterday. God's people assembled, praised Him, fellowshiped, feasted on the Word, and grew in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

Far too often, Christians can come away thinking that missions work, church service, and pastoral ministry are the “real” work of the Christian life, while vocations like teaching, manufacturing, production, retail, and food service are somehow second-rate. But Scripture gives us a better view: God blessed work from the beginning (Genesis 1:28; 2:5, 15), and Colossians reminds us that work done with an eye toward God is God-honoring and meaningful.

But how does one work with an eye on God? And what about supervisors, managers, and senior-level management? How can they glorify God in their various responsibilities?

Join us this Sunday as we see the relationship between Christ and Work!

Joel Beeke and Paul Smalley write, “The aim of theology should be a right relationship with God through Christ.”

They cite 2 Timothy 3:15: "And that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (NASB).

Theology, God-centered, Bible-based, and church-rendered theology, should lead us to a deep and deepening relationship with the Triune God of glory.

At Warrior Creek, we value solid doctrine and good theology, as we seek to bring every thought captive under the reign of Christ. Our aim is not to have people know a lot in their heads, but for them to love the Lord with their hearts and share Him with others. Or, to put it slightly differently, we exist to know Him and make Him known.

In his "Institutes of the Christian Religion," Calvin writes, “For all Adam’s descendants are like him: they take their origin from him, and are born with the taint of his defilement.”

In God's Word we see the universal guilt and hopelessness of humanity, bound under sin, in passages like Romans 3:10-17.

We are like our father, Adam, "and are born with the taint of his defilement."

But thanks be to God, who "being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ!" (Eph. 2:4-5, NASB)

As we contemplate and mourn our sinfulness, that taint from Adam, let us also celebrate our forgiveness in Christ, that righteousness from the Second Adam!

This Sunday is our Family Sunday! We give our nursery workers a day off and encourage our families to worship together. Children will sit with their parents and begin to learn how corporate worship works.

What more fitting sermon than the responsibilities of children and parents? What does the Bible teach us about child-rearing? How does Christ transform children as well as the parents?

"Take away assertions, and you take away Christianity."

Martin Luther wrote that to the humanist scholar Desiderius Erasmus in his book "Bo***ge of the Will."

The two had a unique relationship, one that showed respect but also revealed a difference in their approach to Christianity and theology. Erasmus shied away from doctrinal precision and focused more on morality. Luther preferred clarity and biblical evidence.

Although they began their relationship on friendly terms, their disagreement over the nature of the will eventually drove a sharp wedge between them.

We can learn much from both of their positions, but the key one to take away today is the need for robust, doctrinal truth. Luther is absolutely correct: "Take away assertions, and you take away Christianity." Assertions such as "Christ is Lord," "salvation is by grace through faith," or "the Bible is the very Word of God" are what Christianity is built on and depends on.

Let us strive to read and study the Scriptures with clarity and precision!

In "Institutes of the Christian Religion," Calvin discusses the authority of Scripture. He writes, "It is as if, in Scripture, we beheld with our own eyes the very essence of God.”

Many proofs support the Bible, but above all is the fact that "it is given to us from the mouth of God himself" (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

At Warrior Creek Baptist Church, we believe God's Word carries its own weight of authority. But it also shows us our Triune God of glory. Every chance we have to read, study, and apply God's Word is an opportunity to behold the Lord's glory and be transformed into the image of His dear Son and our precious Savior!
