250 years ago the Declaration of Independence was signed, leading to the establishment of the United States of America and its other founding document, the US Constitution.

It’s appropriate, as citizens of the United States, to pause and give thanks for the freedoms these documents preserve for us. And it’s equally appropriate, as Latter-day Saints, to recognize God’s purposes and role in those founding events (see Doctrine and Covenants 101:77–80).

D & C 101:77-80

77 According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles;

78 That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment.

79 Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bo***ge one to another.

80 And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.

What was Christ's motivation for paying for all of our sins?

John 15:13

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

President D. Todd Christofferson
Second Counselor in the First Presidency
In his April 2026 General Conference talk
The Character of Christ said the following:

The love of Christ yields character traits such as compassion, patience, a willingness to correct “when moved upon by the Holy Ghost,” and certainly a willingness to forgive.

The Apostle Peter reminds us that in the latter days, there will be doubters who question the Second Coming of Jesus Christ: “There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming?”

Peter reminds us that the “Lord is not slack” and that if there is any seeming delay in His return, it is because of His long-suffering mercy in giving us more time to repent before “the great and dreadful day of the Lord.”

This Memorial Day, we pause with grateful hearts for those who came before us and the sacrifices that make our lives, families, faith, and freedoms possible. ❤️🤍💙

As we celebrate graduation season and reflect on Mother’s Day earlier this month, we are reminded of two of life’s greatest influences: the love of mothers and education.

Mothers do far more than give life—they nurture, teach, sacrifice, encourage, and believe in us long before we believe in ourselves. Their quiet acts of service, unwavering faith, and constant support help shape the character and confidence that carry us through life.

Graduation is a milestone that represents years of hard work, perseverance, and growth. Behind every graduate is a community of people who have offered love, guidance, and encouragement.

For many, a mother—or someone who has fulfilled that sacred role—has been among the most powerful and enduring influences.
Whether through biological motherhood or through the nurturing example of grandmothers, stepmothers, aunts, teachers, mentors, and friends, motherhood is reflected in those who place the needs of others above their own and help others become their best selves.

To all graduates: congratulations on your achievement and on the bright future ahead.

To all mothers and mother figures: thank you for your sacrifices, your faith, and your love.

And to all who have been blessed by their influence, may we honor them by continuing to learn, grow, and lift others along the way.

As another school year comes to an end, I know many moms are tired from the glue sticks, sack lunches, forgotten assignments, and last-minute projects—but never underestimate the eternal impact of the small, everyday things you do.🤍
